Some while back someone was asking about a good tool for generating setups, and I recommended Inno Setup from http://www.jrsoftware.org/. I've used it for years, and even used it for the VDS distributions I released, as well as my own programs at http://www.tech-pro.co.uk/. But it's getting to be bloatware, especially for small VDS apps.

After some intensive evaluation I've found an excellent alternative. It is called AGInstaller and you can get it from http://www.agentix.org/aginstaller.php. It does almost everything Inno Setup does, and the setup.exes are almost 240KB smaller! 290KB smaller than the exes produced by the beta of Inno Setup 4. I was so impressed I went and made a voluntary donation, and I don't often do that, believe me.

There's no GUI setup builder, so I think there is a nice opportunity for a VDS coder to make something to help with building the setup scripts. I'm also interested in the possibility of using the DLL support feature to try to make an "install from the web" so that VDS micro-applications could be distributed without the run-time, which would be downloaded only if required.

Thanks for the tip jules.
Been using Inno for a long time myself and this one looks very impressive. So little overhead, gotta love that.

Thanks again Smile
