Thanks

so I would put the below in my program(and I dont have to edit the DLL):

Code:
#define command,DLL
#define function,DLL
external VDSDLL.DLL

since I wont register it till i try it I just leave off the external parameter.

I'm assuming I have all the above correct, and
I'll give it a whirl again after I eat some lunch...

Well I tryed it, and it failed again, same errors Crying or Very sad

Code:
I did exactly as you said, I added the #DEFINE's to the VDSDLL3 example script vdsflist.dsc as seen below:

directory change,C:\VDS5\vdsdll3
external vdsdll.dll

rem   I added the 2 lines below as you said -------------------------- < here
#define command,DLL
#define function,DLL
rem  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

rem thanks to Marty for the example script
  title VDSFLIST Example
directory change,@path(%0)

  DIALOG CREATE,VDSFLIST Example,-1,0,498,268,CLASS TVDSFLIST
  DIALOG ADD,TEXT,drivetxt,8,40,,,Directory:
  DIALOG ADD,EDIT,drive,8,120,104,24,C:
  DIALOG ADD,BUTTON,findnow,216,200,88,24,Find Now,,default
  DIALOG ADD,TEXT,filesrch,8,240,,,Search for extension:
  DIALOG ADD,EDIT,search,8,352,104,24,*.*
  DIALOG ADD,LIST,filelist,48,40,416,152
  DIALOG ADD,STATUS,status,Ready...
  DIALOG SHOW
:evloop
  wait event
  goto @event()
:findnowBUTTON
  dialog cursor,wait
  dialog title,"Please wait, performing search..."
dialog set, status,Searching on drive @dlgtext(drive) for @dlgtext(search)... Please wait..

  dll flist,flags,F
  dll flist,list,@dlgtext(drive),@dlgtext(search),ahrs*
  dll flist,save,templist.txt
  list loadfile,filelist,templist.txt

dialog set, status,Number of files found: @count(filelist)
  dialog title,VDSFLIST Example
  dialog cursor
  goto evloop
:close
  exit

I keep clicking the OK on the repeating warning dialog box this time, and I seen the below error 28 at line 2.

Quote:
28 External library not available

Either the DLL specified in an EXTERNAL command could not be located on the search path, or a condition for its use was not met (refer to the documentation for using the extension.)

Hmm, it sounds like you might have an incompatible version...
Try getting the latest version from the main page, or you can
try this place also:

http://www.vdsworld.com/vdsdll/vds5

Also, keyins.dsc is for when you get your registration key, it will insert
the reg key in the top of all of the scripts in the specified directory that
use vdsdll. Smile

Unfortunately all .dll files in the VDSDLL 3 related packages at the main site are uncompatible
with VDS 5. To resolve it, you can download that package and replace it with the updated
extensions at:

http://www.vdsworld.com/vdsdll/vds5

In your case this file in particular will be important:

http://www.vdsworld.com/vdsdll/vds5/vdsdll.zip

Unfortunately as I've been fairly busy, the packages at the main site haven't been updated
yet with the updated .dll files.

I still don't understand or see the line that prevents that EXAMPLE vdsflist script from working when I have the compatible VDSDLL.DLL, because I don't see and lines that look different than vds5.

I still keep getting the below warning and ERROR:

Quote:
This is a demostration version of the VDSDLL. It is
non-redistributable and only for personal use.
Please contact Tommy Sools if you aren't the auther of this file.

www.vdsworld webmaster@vdsworld www.soold.com

then:

Runtime error 28
at line 2

Do I have to pay someone before I try it, if so I'm very sorry I broke that aggreement Sad
Does anyone know whats wrong?

I don't know why allmost every thing I try to do in VDS ends up taking allmost a day to do 1 little thing, but for some odd reason I love it Laughing

Thanks fo the help in stage 1 Laughing

The message box that pops up is just telling you that you are only allowed
to use the version you downloaded for your own personal use, and that
you can't re-distribute it in your programs to other people unless you
have bought a serial number.

Tell me, have you compiled your test scripts before trying them, or are
you running them from the IDE? If you're compiling them, you need to
put in a serial number first, but you can freely try them while running them
from the IDE. Smile

That is the exact problem. The VDSDLL is shareware and will not allow you to compile a exe and use the dll. You can only use the DLL while you are in the VDS IDE (using the RUN button in VDS), if you try to compile an exe and use the VDSDLL (or other shareware dll's) you will get a warning that you cannot use the dll in a compiled exe and it errors out.

You are free to test the script while using the VDS IDE, but you cannot compile exe's linked to certain shareware dll's - those dll's prevent being used in compiled exe's until the dll is purchased. When the dll is purchased you can then compile exe's using those dll's.

I meant I test them from there(the IDE)
I just meant that testing from the VDS IDE was the only option I had Smile

So we're back to where we started again, somethings wrong with the VDSFLIST and or VDSDLL and or ME Laughing

Does anyone have a clue whats wrong?

OK, I figured it out now... Laughing

From with-in the VDS IDE:

You must not hit the RUN EXE FILE (play button)

You must only hit the RUN SCRIPT (play button).

Quote:
I think a Readme text included with the DLL's would help people like me thats new VDS, or kinda new. (just include the above and a little #define etc help.

Thanks for your(everyones) help in guiding me to the solution Smile

The reason you have to have the IDE run the script and not compile it is
because some (actually most) DLLs you can't use in a compiled EXE until
you give it a serial number, which is what you have to purchase. Smile
