Hi All,
This is the second time that I noticed this. Wine is not a emulator. Wine a Win32 API port to Linux. They rewrote the Win32 API for Linux this is not the same as being a Emulator. Take a look at the FAQ http://www.winehq.com/site/docs/wine-faq/index#WHAT-IS-WINE-AND-WHAT-IS-IT-SUPPOSED-TO

Sorry I am not shouting here that is how the Link above is written.

Anyway Wine is definately not a emulator of any kind. The Win32 API is just a bunch of DLL's that make up parts of the OS. With the proper documentation one can make another DLL that does the same as someone elses. I guess you could say that Wine is a mimic but not a emulator. The source code for Wine is native Linux and it's binaries are native binaries.

Very unlikely you were going to get VDS apps to run on the xbox 360, let alone running on Xbox 1. The platform is running on a modified version of Windows 2000 (xbox 1), xbox 360 is more than likely either running 2000, modified windows xp, modified windows 2003 or an entirely new proprietary os. I'm more under the impression it's using 2000 or 2003 running on the powerpc chips.

The problem is code on those platforms needs to be signed by a key only Microsoft has, it's near impossible to do that unless you are an official developer and MS clearly will not let you release any type of application unless it is a game, and you would definately need a publisher before that could even happen. Let's just say you would need several million dollars to even get started with the endeavor.

Some applications where able to run on the original Xbox 1 because 'hackers' were able to overwrite the original Xbox bios and run their own modified bios which allowed applications to run without Microsoft's application keys, this typically required opening up the console, installing a mod chip (which bypasses cpu instructions into a chip) and then installing a custom bios. This means your user base of users will be very small as the general public will not have access to your applications without opening and modifying hardware.

There are absolutely no mods or 'hacks' for the xbox 360 at this time as the platfrom has not been out for even a month yet. Let's theoretically say you got your vds apps to work on a modded Xbox 1, that does not mean it will work on Xbox 360. The 360 does play backcompatible xbox 1 games, but requires each game have a patch on the Xbox 360 harddrive (this is due to original xbox 1 games running on intel cpu's and the xbox 360 running powerpc chips - thus the need to emulate older xbox 1 games). That means you would also need to have a patch available which is also SIGNED by Microsoft's special encryption keys. So you would need to write a patch, and get it signed to get the app working - UNLIKELY.

It would be suicide to support a platform that requires users to modify their hardware and at the disapproval of microsoft. It's just not worth it, why people bother to install linux on an xbox is beyond comprehension.

Anyway if you really want to delve into this deeper you can always buy an xbox 360 on ebay for around 800 bucks Smile Sorry won't be selling mine, even for that price Smile
