|
|
I was just browsing thru the Lazarus forums and came across this item:
Quote: |
Well I'm giving up on Delphi. I'm no longer being paid to write programs. I bought Delphi 2005 because it looked great, and was bitterly disappointed by the instability and the slowness, which 3 patches failed to fix. Now they expect me to buy Delphi 2006 to get rid of the bugs that are left? I can't afford it.
So I'm going to migrate my handful of programs over to Lazarus. They are mostly hobby freeware or shareware that never made much money. In the process I'll probably help find a few bugs in Lazarus, and perhaps convert some Delphi components I've used. It's not the easiest choice, but at least I can't be held to ransom by Borland any more.
I've been a Borland user since Turbo Pascal 3 for DOS in 1985, but Delphi 2005 was the last straw for me.

What does this mean for VDS6?
Is Julian not paid anymore by Commercial Research?
Is he still involved with VDS or is CR trying to go on without him (in which case I really doubt that VDS6 will become a reality)?
Sorry to push the panic button but is there anyone around who knows more about Julian's VDS-involvement or the progress on VDS6?
Of course Julian himself would be the best commentor on this subject.

Indeed, that is a bit disconcerting!

Ok,
I agree with Julian about Delphi 2005, we have it here also, and its really buggy.
As for VDS 6, like I mention in another thread.. it will happen. It has been confirmed by an official source.
But as for Julian, well, I think he has been hired by CR as a contractual. That is not confirmed but what I think. And maybe his contract is finished?
Yes its a bit long before VDS 6 comes out.. but it will.. I am patient and positive.
Thanks |

Let Me Think...
Kylix is Delphi for Linux
Kylix is now Lazarus
Delphi 2005 and 2006 is just a joke...the last BANG
The crystal ball became clear now
I see VDS 6 will be build with Lazarus and delay another year ?
That mean's another free project
VDS was very good Delphi derivative and now it's gone like a cloud...
The philosophy of Linux is that is free and open source...
If you migrate aplications from linux to windows you get same free developer style programs and they are open source.
Be prepared for a shock
THE END |

I'm not sure if Lazarus is already up to the job to be used for a VDS build.
But it's a great product being actively developed and certainly has the future.
So maybe VDS6 will still be Delphi based but VDS7 might be a multi-platform product based on Lazarus.
But that's daydreaming .......... even thinking of VDS6 is dreaming at this time.
For Lazarus it's a good thing they got the enthusiasme of Julian on their side, together they can do great things I think. |

Does anyone have an official statement on borland's site that they will end their development tool products? I find it odd that Borland would cease selling their development tools but go ahead and release Delphi 2006; unless of course they do want to milk their customers till the very last moment.
Also CR does have internal developers that actively develop VDS. So there definately is no reason to worry about VDS 6 future at this time. |

They are seeking a new buyer for Delphi and other IDE apps.. It does not mean Delphi is long gone
In fact it may be better if some other company buys it... |

It's almost like Microsoft will do the buying and sweep away the entire Borland development suite; in favor of developers going to MS's product line. |
