I just thought of this, and it baffled me.

How can V-Setup be able to open a corresponding help topic when you press F1 without a DLL or a "hidden" menu Question Exclamation Confused

I've heard this is written in VDS...

Might be one of the things to come in the next version of VDS maybe?

One thing I know is that you can use Buttons as Hotkeys by using a value like H&elp... I don't know if it works with the F1 key, I don't think so, but it still is very usefull...

Yes, I was aware of that, but the buttons only allow one letter to be a key...this is two characters... F1

I never tried using buttons for the Fx keys. Give it a try and see.

  DIALOG ADD,BUTTON,BUTTON1,28,48,,,&F1
  DIALOG SHOW
:evloop
wait event
goto @event()
:button1button

I took a second look at it, and I saw that if you name a button/bitbtn HELP a HELPBUTTON event will occur when pressing the F1 key. The same thing with a CANCELBUTTON, if the Escape button is pressed...

That's it! It has a BITBTN named "Help"...
Then it uses the WINHELP command to open the corresponding page, probably...

But Here's another:

When you press F1 on the "Files" tab of V-Setup, you see a screen shot of it...but the list has glyphs in it, they are probably the "Wingdings" font...but how can you use two fonts in one list line?

To Garrett:

You can find an example of a "hidden" menu from Mac somewhere on this forum...you would use something like the following:

DIALOG ADD,MENU,-,Item 1|Ctrl+1,Item 2|Ctrl+2

The hyphen is not visible, the menu is disabled, and it still functions as a Hotkey...only for your program though.

It adds about a quarter of an inch of extra room at the top of the dialog...

VSetup installs it's own font for this. If you use character map, check the vsfont and you'll see the wingdings added to this font, which is used in that list element.

If you want a real hidden menu, try to make a child-window of 1 by 1 pixel, on top, that has a Menu-element on it. I think it should work.

For the multiply fonts: maybe they've used a TEXT element on top of the list. Then you can simulate more then one font. It works fine as long as the list doesn't scroll up or down.

Skit, I just posted above that VSetup installs it's own font for use in that list. If you look at the font, you'll see some wingdings in it's selection.

I didn't think that it installed it's own font...that would be a good font for VDS users to use...although we probably couldn't distribute it because of possible copyrights.

Apparently the "Cancel" BITBTN idea doesn't work in VDS3,
but I added a hidden "Help" BITBTN (F1 key) example here:

Cheers, Mac Smile
