I'd like to write something to notify our front office when a staff person is out of the office.

There would be a client app that the user selects either "In Office" or "Out of Office" and a field where they can add a time they will return, and a comment ie "annual leave" or "out for lunch"

The front office app would have a list of all staff, with a green dot for in office, red dot for out of office, if you click a red dot, you get the comment pop up.

Just wondering if it's possible to collect this data from multiple clients, and instantly update it on the master program, or if I should be looking at another product to write this?

Thanks in advance...

Hi,

this should not be a problem to do with vdsipp.dll extension.

On the master system runs a TCP server and the clients send messages to it.
Then the master-program interprets the client messages.

.

There should be some examples floating about either on the forums here, or on the main site and even with the vdsipp extension or one of the other tcp/ip extensions out there. They may not exactly be what you are immediately looking for, but they will at least give you an idea of how to setup your in/out board. In fact, this should be an easy job once you understand how to use one of the tcp/ip extensions.
