I'm curious as to what people are still developing using VDS.
My latest project is full suite of IT management tools built in a single GUI to include but not limited to:
Patch Management (Kinda like SMS but not as complicated)
Compliance Reporting
Remote tools (RDP, MMC, Events, etc...)
Topology Management with cable records
AD tools
Network Print Management
Central Logging (SysLog and Windows logs)
All done in VDS 6 w/ vdsdb.dll, GadgetX.dll, and visual enhancements with my extTable DSU.
What is everyone else working on??? |

We had a need to remote reboot our gateway control boxes and routers if they crashed or lost internet access.
We use a phone rebooter, basically a plug that you can connect to a telephone line and you can phone it, enter your pin number, turn the device off and then back on.
So....
We use 2 computers:
One running, linux, php, mysql, ssh:
This basically checks over 150 routers, gateway controllers every 10 mins and if any do not respond to our ping, telnet or ssh querys, they are then scheduled for a reboot.
The other computer is running good old faithfully vds6 application, that checks the database on server 1 and then uses the modem using vdsvoice.dll and dials, enters the pin number, and reboots the phone rebooter...
Just got it finished today and works like a charm...
We have some other software we have designed in house, and we create maybe 1,2 applications a week that we use on our servers for small tasks
regards

I do freelance programming in VDS with 2 current clients. One I have had for about 3 years and the other a little over a year. It is going great and I LOVE doing it. _________________ Chris
