Success! It was the cmd.exe program that was running full-screen instead of windowed. I couldn't browse to it and change the settings, however. I had to run it, and then do alt-Enter to make it a window, then access the properties from the window's top bar.

But - it works, all runs hidden now, and life is good.

Thanks for the replies.

Found a better solution then alt enter. Well at least for xp pro. Have not had a change to test it on any other platforms yet. The below code adds a registry key to your curent user\colsole key that is \%SystemRoot%_System32_cmd.exe\ this sub key holds custom setting for your cmd prompt. "goto the properties setting on a command prompt same settings colors change etc" If you have not changed any of these properties then the key will not be there. Changing values in this subkey will effect all cmd.exe prompts that launch under the current user. so those cmds that launch a child cmd can be hidden by running them way off your screen. or running them very tiny so that big black window isnt in your face.

If this works on nt and 2k I would be interested in hearing about it.
same goes for 95/98 with command.com

Code:

Title cmd prompt
  DIALOG CREATE,cmd prompt,-1,0,293,209
  DIALOG ADD,BUTTON,BUTTON1,12,42,202,24,Full Screen
  DIALOG ADD,BUTTON,BUTTON2,40,42,202,24,Window 0|0

Just to update this old discussion:

I ran into the same problem on a Win 2000 computer today. I wasn't able to get the cmd.exe properties to change to run it hidden, until I changed the font from "Raster" to "Lucida". Then my console programs ran hidden without any problem.

FYI if anyone is interested.
