Well it is all fun and games until someone gets their eye poked out hehehehehe
I have a question for anyone at S.A.D.E. VDS 5 has so many new features as compared to VDS 4. Why didn't some of these come out in VDS 4? I would have bought VDS 4 if some of this stuff from VDS 5 was in it. Well being that I am the author of Gadget and I know what it took for me to get it working I could only imagine how many man hours was spent in the development of VDS 5? Anyway another question is how much more optimized is the runtime and Exe's for VDS 5 over the previous versions of VDS? What are the specifications of VDS 5? Does it require anymore horse power than the previous versions? I don't think it does because the beta worked on my 20mb 486 DX4 100 laptop but I don't know what has been changed since the beta that I have? Another question will it be possible to get the address of a user defined function in a future version of VDS. I don't think there is away to do this in VDS 5 but it would be a nice feature for a future version. Also is there any limitations as to the size or type of resource that can be compiled in a VDS 5 Exe? I mean if I wanted to include a VDS dll as a resource can I?
Anyway I think that is enough questions to get us back on the actual subject of new features of VDS 5 _________________ Home of

OK. First of all EVERYONE needs to cut SADE a little
slack here. We've made about 6 pages of arguments about this. I'm glad
to see it die down a little.
As for your question, Mindpower, my guess is that every other version
there will be a MAJOR upgrade, and the version after that will fix the
major bugs from the major upgrade. If you look at it, VDS 2 was the first
version, VDS 3 was a major upgrade, VDS 4 fixed most of VDS 3's bugs
with a few more features. VDS 5 is a major upgrade, and probably VDS 6
will fix most of VDS 5's bugs with a few more features.
Hope this helps. _________________ FreezingFire

Cracking and stealing software is an unstoppable pain in the neck. Even Microsoft has people selling all their cracked OSes for pennies in HK.
The reaction should not be to penalise existing paying customers, but to make those customers evangelists of your product encouraging many more paying customers!
Good customer service will help, a prompt reaction to bugs and fixes for them and all the good marketing techniques will increase the success of the product. _________________ Andrew GRAY

Maybe a little off-topic, and don't get this wrong, but it is proven that people who download MP3's before they go to buy a CD, will buy CDs with songs they have downloaded already. So they've downloaded it like a kind of 'research'...
With this I'm not trying to say cracking software is legal, far from it. I just want to tell that every disadvantage may have his advantages... |

I had the chance to check out a newer version and it was just as fast as
the older beta I had. I ran it on a 500mhz box and I didn't see any
obvious decrease in speed compared to the previous beta.

finally vds is getting a good path
Functions == se ya old old and non-sense Gosub
that is great , really great, that is a feature that was missing from when i evaluated 4
Now with real fuctions is the path to become a real proggraming language not a batch scripting

Although I may be wrong, I don't think VDS 5 does support real functions.
It lets you assign a command or function name to a label defined somewhere. In that
label variables %1 up to %9 could be used to read the parameters to the command or function
and there is also a way of returning results, so the effect is the same as for real functions really.
These functions aren't actually native functions though, I don't think they are natively compiled
in the exe. Also I don't think a way for call by reference is provided. |

you are right, but mypoint is that replacing the old code style (and nonsense, again) needed with gosub is a good path to follow to a real proggraming language
Happy here

I think the lack of really great feature upgrades in VDS4 is, correct me if I'm wrong, but Tech Pro didn't work on that upgrade. I think VDS 5 is going to be seriously awesome...this is going to sound corny...but there is not a day that goes by that I don't check to see if its released.

Exactly what I do. I usually drop by the regusers forum and read the news
on www.dialogscript.com, check these forums, and look at http://www.tech-pro.co.uk
every day for even a hint. _________________ FreezingFire

[Scroll up on this page for context]
Personally as a Visual DialogScript and VB programmer primarily I like gosubs. In Visual Basic you just call a function, the script executes the function and continues within the function that called it...just like using a gosub in Visual DialogScript. Of course there is definitely a place for functions though...like in my VDS template external functions would be much more appropriate over gosubs....but sometimes gosubs are necessary too....why am I babbling? I'm done.
Happy Coding!

| Aren't the user-definied functions the same as Gosubs? |

Well... its a question of Local Function vs. Modular Function. A gosub is a local to where as a user defined function is modular...which means it can be contained in an external file and linked when the executable is compiled.
Basically, yeah, they are the same, they're just called different unless you want to get real technical like I just did.

Some programming languages call subroutines like this (Note that this is 'VDS-Style' ) :
| Code: | info @numericfuntion(5,10)
exit
:Numericfunction
result = @fadd(%1,%2)
exit |
