Thanks Smile I tried adding in the picture open dialog and the picture save dialogs with picture preview but it didn't work out right and kept making the dll crash so I had to remove that Sad But the @object(filedlg) works great. Hopefully SADE will link to the newer version of the common controls dll and the @filedlg within vds will conform to the new design.

I noticed that Prakash just uploaded a new VDSOBJ2 package that includes two examples created for VDS 5... is it an omen of things to come in the very near future? Here's hoping! Very Happy

P.S.
I like the new and improved penguin... what does the "T" stand for?

YES! Super-penguin! Hortalonus, maybe the "T" is for * Throwing an empty
can of soda at you *
Wink ... Good thing that your penguin decided to
get up and get some excercise instead of just drinking soda all day. Wink

-------

Wow. Shocked $100 for the VDSOBJ extension?

EmbarassedLaughing LOL... I know who Tux is. It didn't even cross my mind when I saw the "T". Now I feel dumb... BTW PG, are you running a Linux box? If only there were an equal to VDS for Linux!

I use Windows XP on my home machine, but I have two RedHat Linux servers that are used for hosting websites, etc Smile It might be possible to port VDS over to linux, provided VDS was recompiled in a more recent version of Delphi (6-7) and the code was updated. It would then be a matter of loading the code in Kylix and hitting compile. Depending on how much is needed to upgrade I think a version of VDS would work on Linux, some commands/functions wouldn't work though.

While we're on the subject, and this is a bit off-topic, but WHY does Microsoft
charge so much for a license for server software while Linux is free/cheap?

It doesn't make sense. Confused

Because administration of a Windows server is alot easier then a Linux box. Also because MS is a monopoly and the have the ability to charge what they want Smile In reality though a Windows server can just about run everything a Linux server can, and vice versa, the difficulty is installing new software, upgrading and patching things in Linux. With windows you download an exe and open it Wink and you've upgraded the software.

It's about time PG got a decent price for all his hard work Rolling Eyes I just wish that others would not put such a low price on their abilities as well Question All I can say is you get what you pay for. What a novel Idea

I know it sounds greedy to raise the price that high but here are the circumstances: I've worked well over 25+ hours on that extension, recently upgraded it to version 2 and added more hours to the work, rewrote major portions of the code, rewrote the entire helpfile and received 0 sales since release of version 2. For the past year 2002 I've maybe made 4 sales of the dll at $25. If no one is really purchasing at $25 I don't think many will purchase at $100 but even 1-2 sales will be better.

I must agree with you PK. I made 4 DLLs for VDS and I past many hours (VDSMEDIA = 30+ hours) on some of them. I then sold 2 of them at 10$... Then they got hacked... So as a DLL developper myself I understand your situtation. Building a Help file, Demos and then testing it...That takes lots of personnal time.

If ever I start selling my DLLs again, for sure the price will go up.

Honestly I must say that the amounts of hours mentioned here couldn't
seriously be right, I'm very sure that in fact they are even much higher.
Managing DLLs involves more than just writing the code. Before writing
the code, probably some research will be neccesary. Then while writing
the code, testing and bug hunting will be neccesary and once it's finished
more testing will be required. Some examples will be need to be made
and documentation. And then after some purchased, technical support
will be needed to be supplied for life of the product. And when updates
are to be made, the whole process will start all over.

I entirely agree with Prakash and Marty about raising the prices.
