can i make several styles and then have the user select a color and define a certain part of the text to become that color. i.e.
chat text
[X] orange
[ ] blue
[ ] white
chat name
[X] blue
[ ] white
[ ] orange
or something like this? also this would be in the same edit box.

"NAME:" and "Chat Text" would have to be 2 seperate Text Elements.
If the user changed the color both Text Elements would have to be removed and then added again with the new color style.
With a Rich Text element I would assume you could do what you are looking for though. Check out the VDSWorld main page for an extension that adds rich text capabilities.
