Gerrett,
Oh, so now yours is better huh? Well, mine is FREE! I smell
a challange. Mine uses subst.exe as well. I think I'm going to pull it
out and start to update it. oohhh this is going to be fun!
I got the idea from DirectDrive as well. I used to use it also but I want to
make my own as well.

hehehe this is cool. Sorry, Liquid, I haven't seen yours yet as of this posting.
Hey Garrett.
It works fine on a Win2000 spk2 machine.
One question, how come you decided to disable all the other drives when a drive is selected not allow selection of other drives until the selected drive is de-selected with another click? Wouldn't it be better to allow a user to select another drive and in effect de-select the previous drive? Of course the edit controls wil need to reflect the status of each drive as it is selected. What do you think? Noup, not trying to overstep my bounds here, just curious. _________________ Sylvester

When you connect it, then click on the drive button again, and then again click on it and try to disconect it. See if that works that way. |

Hi Garret
I don't now what's happening here, but after trying starting the program for several times my pc hangs completly up. I pussed the ctrl alt del and saw that the program was listed for a 10 times without running.
For copy protection, i don't have a program that doesn't allow this.
On xp it runs fine but on my 98 version it even doesn't start.
see you rene |

Hey now, you have to admit that graphically, mine looks much better.
Yeah, if it wasn't for the fact that I have to make a living from things like this and web design, I'd made mine freeware also. But unfortunately, freeware doesn't pay my rent, so I've gotta go shareware here and there with my programs.
Challenge? What challenge.... I am Borg, you will be assimilated.
If we're going to challenge each other, then it should be on something new and not something we've both already made. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

Think like a user and not a programmer now. If all those buttons were available, you'd be inclinded to start pressing buttons all over the place!
Actually, the point behind that was because the user might change their mind on either the directory or maybe decide to just not make that new drive at all. So they're not done with that drive until they click on the button again.
I actually had considered just going back to the normal state after they connect or disconnect, but thought I should leave it this way until user is sure they're done with that specific drive.
But if everyone things I should just skip that last step, I will. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

I'm glad mine works for you. I just finished updating it. It now has
better graphics and now has sounds. Give it a try.
Garrett,
I understand about it not being freeware. I would LOVE to make a living
on programming, but I just can't get anything started.
We'll have to come up with a good challenge to work on, just for
fun of course. Anyideas?
Give Meld a try. It a VDS Resource Compiler. I think it is one of
my better programs. _________________ Chris

Oh! That is so much better now! Only one suggestion... Wait, couple of suggestions.
First, get rid of the "Help" menu and make a button for it instead.
Second, you've got far too much open space there.. Just way too much. Getting rid of the help menu and adding a button will help resolve the too much space problem, but you'll still be left with too much open space.
Line up your drive buttons differently or something. There's too much space on that thrid row of drive buttons.

Actually, I was trying to think of something for a bit of a challenge between us, and who ever else wants to play along with us on this. I want it to be something that's not too hard and time consuming for any of us, but yet, still something that is at least somewhat useful. We should also avoid dlls unless they are freeware dlls that anyone can get and use.
Hey, you still have my email address?? If not it's garrettATeyrisdevDOTcom
Let's get together and come up with a program for the challenge, then we'll let anyone and everyone in on it.
No prizes, no nothing except bragging rights to whom ever does the best job.
All the users can vote for the best job. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

I don't think that would be fair as I have been working on one with
marty (eXtreme Senses) for a while now. I have got it to a good point
that it will soon be able to be tested on a big scale. As far as details
we prefer to keep them to us for now. (I like to tease)
Any other ideas?

I agree with the "rules". I'll see if I can come up with any ideas. See

Hey Chris,
Although your old VDrive program worked fine, your new program won't work; it returns: "Subst.exe not found in your Windows path. VDrive cannot continue."
subst.exe is in my C:\WINNT\system32 directory, on Windows 2000.
Good luck with your new programs!
Best regards,
Tommy |
