Hi Sieber,

do you know if it fails on a MUI version of Japanese windows or was yours just a regular 'vanilla' install? Question

I will need to use VDS on some 2500 japanese MUI versions of XP early next year. If suppose I could still do most of my stuff in VDS 4. Sad

Cheers
Sanjuro

Hi Sanjuro,

we had some Japanese customer and they use little tools which we had written by VDS 3.x. This works without problems. But if we compile this tools with VDS 4.x or 5.x we get the message EXE is corrupt.

This message popup also on the installation in-house (using VM-ware with Japanese Windows 2000)

Yes it looks like you are right. I just got an email a few moments ago from someone in China? which sent me a screenshot of Alloy having problems. When he tries to launch the program it shows the dialog with title 'Visual DialogScript' and the text on the dialog:

'EXE is corrupt'.

This bug definately needs to be fixed if VDS is to be used for programs distributed worldwide. Most likely due to how the script is encrypted?

Maybe checksum goes wrong in a different language due to a change in the length of the strings. Fixing this will help its worldwide distribution.
BTW does the VDS 5.0 Multi lingual Patch resolve this issue ?
I think it's fix only for the IDE though.

Also does trying to compile without version info added resolve it ?
I think this most likely should resolve it -as i think may be one thing among verified things which may be language dependent and may be affected by a langauge that uses non english fonts like chineese japaneese etc.
May be someone can try this.

I'm not sure I'm on an English version of Windows so I can't really test to see if removing the versioninfo resource will solve it or not. I'll contact CR about this directly though and see what they can do about it.

If I can help to figure out the problem, please let me know.

I have all the technical stuff in the office.

Japanese Windows NT
Japanese Windows 2000

VDS 2.X registered
VDS 3.X registered
VDS 4.X registered
VDS 5.X Demoversion with Multi lingual Patch

NOTE: It is not a problem of VDS 5 it also exist for Version 4.x

I think this version stuff was added in VDS 4.x. So i asked if it works if U uncheck the INCLUDE VERSION INFO box and compile.
Beyond that I think only Commercial research can help.

If its the version info that s the problem then it should fixed not disabled.

I am writing a set of migration tools that automate a users migration from a legacy OS to Win Xp. The compant its for is a global company and so i require not only functionality in Japanese but also version information as the tools will need to be patched and version aware. I am sure a workaround is possible for the version control but why re-invent the wheel?

Luckily for me the Japanese rollout is some 6 months away

tick - tick - tick Wink

Cheers
Sanjuro

Does the problem occur with a VDS EXE that is compiled without any version info?

Just wondering, what about the manifest file linked into the executables?
That uses English words too.
