Don't point releases usually have additional stuff with them? Shouldn't it be 4.03? Please excuse me if this is an OT thread. |

Yeah. Perhaps SADE's version numbering goes like this:
| Code: |
OPTION DECIMALSEP, "."
REM Previous version
%%v_number = 4.02
REM Number of bugs in previous version - maybe 22 in all?
%%bugs = 22
REM Weeks passed since previous version - let's just say 26
%%time = 26
%%getversion = @fadd(@fadd(%%v_number,@fdiv(%%bugs,100)),@fdiv(%%time,100))
%%newversion = @format(%%getversion,1.2)
info VDS version %%newversion has been released.

Funny.... Good coding Dr. Dread, I should add that to my next vds app... for version control...
Your right about that ,usually with a version number like that it should include new features.
For myself I'm still happy it was released with whatever version, since 2 of the bugs fixes were important for me. |

There's no real standard for version tracking. Look at Microsoft, they skip entire numbers.
MSIE started right off at version 3. There was never a version 1 or 2.
Anyone here know the answer why? If no one does, I'll come back and tell you.
Personally, in my programs, I don't like using .0x numbers. I prefer to use only x.x only.
Anytime I modify the source code, that constitutes a change in the version. But if I make major internal or gui modifications, then I change up to the next version (upgrade) number, otherwise, it just from x.1 to x.2 (update)
There have been times where I have made changes, but didn't release the program with the changes, but did change the version number. Then weeks later, did more changes and again, changed the version number and then released.
BTW, VDS 4.5 did have new things in it. NOTITLE now can be used with out a Taskbar Icon.
Best regards,

Perhaps they didn't want a version number lower than netscape's one?

Exactly! Only because Netscape was currently at version 3 did MSIE make version 3, even though it really should have been version 1.

| How do you know Microsoft wasn't working on internal builds before they decided to release ? Im' sure they did the 3 thing as you said but no one knows the full circumstances, there may have been major internal builds before they decided to go with a public version. |

Why would anyone give Micro$oft the benefit of the doubt?

Ahahaha! No, no, no! I did not mean there was a threat to your puppy. What I meant was because you have a puppy and NOT a kitty, God's reprisals against unsuspecting kitties whenever someone supports Micro$oft probably does not matter as much as if God took out his frustrations on puppies! _________________ Sylvester

I hear gratuitous watering is good for fire hydrants... makes them grow big and strong. _________________ Sylvester
