|
|
I need beta-testers for my new chess game entirely made in VDS. YAMUCHEGA means Yet Another MUltiplayer CHEss GAme. I know it's a lame name but I couldn't come up with anything else Beta-testers only have to play it and see if they find bugs or anything, and then report the bugs, obviously. Please reply to this thread if you want to beta-test the game; include your e-mail and i will send you a copy. Optionally, you can email me your beta joining request to protected@vdsworld.com if you don't want to make your email address public. Bugs found can either be posted here or emailed, as well. Thank you! |

Wow rubes Thanks everyone. I will email the file to you. Have in mind that for now the game is only 2-players-in-the-same-computer (no internet play). Internet play is really the only thing left in the game so I wanted to make sure the engine had no bugs at all before I implemented, so when I implement it, if there are errors, I can be almost sure they are in the internet part, and it will be easier to spot them and fix them. |

Looks good. Have given it a quick spin and haven't been able to break it
Some comments:
1. Why not use the normal designations of squares, i.e. A-H1-8 instead of X and Y?
2. Put these designations beside the board so users can easily find for example D4
3. I'd like the move not to be completed until I've released the mouse button (like in real chess; move is not
valid until you let go of the piece)
4. Various misspellings
5. Save Game feature would be nice
6. I'd like to be able to close the info boxes to the right if I don't want them
7. Perhaps a small box with an overview of the pieces already taken
8. I'd like the white squares brighter - now they are plain grey and flow into the menu bar.
That's it for now. It's a really nice program already, though.

1. Because for programming purposes it is easier to work with numbers only:P
2. I dont think I'll do this:P But I can put them as tooltips. Actually tell me one thing, the letters identify columns and numbers are for rows right?
3. I'll try to implement this
4. Where? =)
5. Will add it
6. Will add that
7. I will think about this one. End of the list
8. I dont know how they look like in Windows non-XP but for me the menus have a different color... You see, the colors are like that to keep an acceptable contrast between the UNITS and the board... if I make the white squares brighter the contrast with the white units will be worse...

One thing people; More than program crashes, make sure you look for bugs in the engine, like wrong movement possibilities or chances to leave king in check and do something else or to put the king in check or situations of check-mate where you should lose but you don't, and so on... Feel free to email me screenshots of the board if necessary =) Thanks |

1. Sure it's easier, but when you play chess and see positions in papers etc. you're not gonna
see X&Y but A-H&1-8.
2. Correct. Lower left square is a1 upper right is h8
3. Nice
4. Teorically = Theoretically
accoriding = according
arround = around
5. Nice
6. Nice
7. OK
8. Well I dunno about that. I think one could find lots of shades of grey that offer equal or even better contrast
than plain grey. E.g. R: 192 G: 192 B:175. And for even better contrast one could use black instead of dark
grey to outline each piece on bright squares.
Anyways, these are just my thoughts. Don't feel obliged to implement any of this if it's not what you feel is
right.

If I use black, then the black units will look like shadows:P |

Yeah, I may have been unclear there, but I was thinking about the white pieces on the grey background only.

Right, I can give it a go. Two simple color replacements - there are tools for that, so I'll mail you
some recolored tiles in a couple of minuts.
Then you can have a look
