I create the pages using good old Front Page Express which came with Windows 98 I believe, and which I've faithfully transferred from machine to machine. It does all I need, and I've learned to live with its quirks. But you can use any HTML editor for this.

I build the .chm file using Microsoft HTML Workshop which you can download from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/htmlhelp/html/hwMicrosoftHTMLHelpDownloads.asp. It has a few bugs, which again I've got used to, but I'm cheap and it's free! Very Happy

I even do my web site using FPX (can I hear gasps of disbelief?)

The Microsoft HTML Workshop is all you really need to do this and honestly is quite easy (that's pretty hard to say when using a Microsoft development tool). Editing html pages is where you want to maybe invest in a visual editor, honestly though I just use notepad and check my code by opening the page in IE and testing to see if everything looks right.

There's documentation that comes with Microsoft HTML Workshop for advanced features that you may need.

Hi Rinauld
Manually entering the index items after clicking each - entering a item and then Ok is a pain if you want more than few entries in the index. I had made a utility for this in VDS which makes things much simpler.Drag'nDrop html files. If U don't enter a title it will use the file name to generate one for each page in the index. I was thinking of adding ability to add contents also in the same way and make it a commercial app (not for vds users but for others). It needs HTML Workshop installed as of now. Using dll and making it more proffessional is a later idea if I ever get time.
As such the app has some bugs related mainly to command line option of HTML Workshop. You nned to place the app in the same directory as the htmal files you wish to add. Inspite of all these it outperforms some commercial apps already available. Workaround is possible for most of these but I am not bothered as it is for my own use. If you want it in current state let me know.
