Could any of you with Windows XP, NT or 2K test something for me. Could you log in as Guest, try to run an executable created using VDS 5, and post back whether it runs OK. I just discovered something rather strange (and deeply worrying) and I want to know if it is something peculiar to my system before tearing out more of my hair. _________________ The Tech Pro

Thanks. I think I have found the reason for the problem. I was receiving the error:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000022)."
From some Google searching it seems that this probably means that the user concerned does not have access rights to a DLL, probably VDSRUN50.DLL in this case. It sometimes happens with the VB runtime, and the solution is to rught-click the DLL, select Properties, select the Security tab, and change it from there. Only I haven't got a Security tab.
I guess this has come about because I am building the VDS runtime, instead of installing it as per normal, but I suppose it could occur when installing VDS apps on other systems, if you don't check the access rights when copying the DLL into the system folder. _________________ The Tech Pro

I don't know about Windows XP Home Edition but in pro
Click start menu and the icon representing your account at the top from a admin privil account. You will see user accounts dialog. Click on home and activate guest account.
If that is not visible run "control userpasswords2" (no quotes) and for a new account/available account change rights to guest users.
BTW I tested it OK on guest account for VDS 5 exe under several conditions.
It needs testing on a XP/NT system where VDS 5 was never installed. _________________ Regards

Well I don't know I might have disabled it on my admin account but it is not there
I don't know how to enable it. A Google search may help :!
The only way I know to access this in all possible security details(tab) is using a TRUE ADMINISTRATOR account (not one with a different name and admin privileges).
This account is disabled for normal access in the presence of another account by default.
This account has the maximium possible privileges under XP.
To access it start in safe mode "F8" while booting and select the account. _________________ Regards

Yes, and I guess that is pretty hard for most of us. I only found out about this when I got errors when one of my own apps ran under the guest account. It isn't a VDS issue, though, I'm glad to say. But it is an issue for whatever you use to install a VDS app on someone else's computer. _________________ The Tech Pro
