I have received a mail from a concerned VDS user not getting a reply to his question he
addressed to Visual DialogScript's technical support.

Is even $99 too less now to provide some service at all?

Shame (on you)

This isn't a new problem.. Now you know partly why people complain about VDS.

I agree - while I think VDS is a great product, I think more attention is
needed for it.

makes you wonder if cr is really serious about making vds a success...if they are not, then why spend so much time and $ bringing out new versions...

perhaps they could subcontract the marketing and support to a small group of dedicated people who would take the whole thing seriously

perhaps an exchange of services could be organised with cr...free versions of vds for folks willing to deal with support calls for vds and for folks involved in marketing vds on the net...

I think CR is overwhelmed with its projects because I there's been a lot
of changes and I can't really reach "the boss" now.

I do wish that the "complementary packages" that were supposed to be
sent out with VDS would actually be sent out - I bought VDS 5 quite a
number of months ago and have heard nothing of it. Not to mention things
like if you registered VDS 5 you would receive the source code to the
"perfmon.dsu"

Possibly they have taken an intermediate path Rolling Eyes

Probably so. And it is a sure path to shoot your own foot. User support is one issue, another is bug corrections.
I see the word "workaround" a lot these days - instead of having proper program corrections..

And really simple things like the annoying ontop property of the help file and all the new funcs/commands missing
from the help file index - seems like they will never get dealt with. Such a shame for such a great piece of software.

I see quite another attitude from many guys here on the board: bringing out fine VDS add-ons and being fast and
efficient in dealing with user questions, suggestions, and bug reports. Really a shining example of how things
could and should be.

My 2 cents....

I agree with everything you said Dr. Dread. Something needs to be done. Smile

Today, I got an E-mail from a person who said he wanted to buy VDS by 'normal' mail. He E-mailed CR a few times, after which he didn't get any response. I told him CR probably was a bit busy, and should reply in a few days, but now I'm not so sure about that anymore... Rolling Eyes

It would be too cool if our 'top authors' could buy the source of vds and continue the development of new, stable versions of vds Very Happy

I think that if you want to enchance VDS, you should rebuilt it from scratch with parts of the old source code. The reason for that is because I think that the current VDS version is just VDS 3 with lots of code added by different people, so I guess there will be a lot of unnecessary code in it. But, of course, it would be real cool if such a thing can be done... Smile

True, but of course then if it became a more open-source type thing, there
would most inevitably be public concerns about the safety of their source
code. Of course this could be fixed if the compiler created true EXE's -
such as compiling them as ASM.

That would be cool to see new developments but I really don't think that
CR is going to sell VDS to us - plus to buy it off of them it would probably
be like $10,000

If the source were $10,000 I would buy it. I offered that to SADE years ago and they declined. I think the going figure is more around +$100,000 for the source code.

I'm just not willing to throw down that kind of cash for a development tool. Dev tools are hard to sell and the user base is also small. A return on investment for such a buy would take years to get back. Also I don't think it would be open source at such a price.

Maybe we should ask Commercial Research what they are planning to do with VDS, and if they are not developing it anymore, if it is possible to get the source code (or a license to use their VDS syntax?).
