Hi everyone I need help for beta-testing my latest project, Protected Tiles Pro 4.0 . As some of you know, PTP is a (very bad) game maker made in vds, but this version has really better graphics, uses full-screen and has loads of new features (syntax was completely changed).

If you want to help me, reply to this post with your email please. I will send you the beta version installer. I dont promise to send the beta to everyone that replies, but I'll try. Bug reports can be sent to my email or posted in one of the two related threads that will stand in the Miscellaneous forum in forum.vdsworld.com and in the Software forum in www.development4life.net . I will reply only in these forums. Thanks in advance for everyone who helps This program took me 3 months and 1/2 to make, but there are still lots of bugs to find

Beta info:

This is the first beta release. No bugs were found yet.
Minimum system resources:
200 Mhz processor recommended
640x480 and 800x600 screen resolutions REQUIRED
High Color (or True color) REQUIRED
Sound recommended
32 mb RAM

What is expected from beta testers:

Test detailedly the editor and scripting language by trying to create
the maximum possible amount of games using a large variety of commands.
Test the demonstration in all the aspects. Report all the bugs, errors
and mistakes to protected555@icqmail.com the most quickly possible.
(IMPORTANT!) Also send suggestions and feedback of all kind to the
same email. Nice script files to serve as demonstrations (together
with the required resource files) would be great! Also send me
information about what I should put in the TUTORIAL that will come
in the FULL VERSION of the program, this is also (IMPORTANT!).

Beta-Testers that actually beta-test the game and report the bugs and
try to participate, will have their names in the program (yes ALL of
them even if there are 100 beta testers) and recieve a free
registration of the program if i make it shareware (which is probable).

Sooner or later (sooner I expect) I will place here an extra pack
with fonts, images, midis and sound effects (i'm not sure about these
last ones though) that will be usefull for PTP game developers.

KNOWN ISSUES

* The SCREEN FLASH command is a *** ************* ***** ** ****!
- I know! Its due to VDS, its not my fault anyway.

* In Windows XP the mouse isn't disabled during the game.
- I can't do anything about that.

* Some times the screen editor doesn't place the tiles correctly.
- This happened to me once, but never again. If it happens to you
please report.

* More stuff that I probably forgot.

Ok first of all sorry about the bad english, I'm tired to write better. Basically, beta testers should make their possible to find bugs, especially in the scripting language (not only in pre-made files) and report them and to see what is more difficult to learn and send me your oppinions about that so I can create a good tutorial with more examples. good beta testers get a registration (free) and the name in the program (i guess in the help file).

Notice that the included DEMO.PTP script is NOT FINISHED. Don't report that as a bug! I repeat, the INCLUDED DEMO IS NOT FINISHED. I didn't have time, I will finish it later, I think its enough for you to see how it works anyway; it is well commented (the best I could).

Also I didn't create this alone; i would never had succeeded if it wasn't Tommy Sools, our webmaster, who created me a lot of extensions I needed (VDS is not a gaming language remember) so don't you think I'm the only programmer of PTP4 ok?

Also a "thank you" note for Garrett and PGWARE (Prakash) for their help, it must be really difficult to resist to my boring difficult questions, thank you! And also to Michael Hoopman for the sprites (they're simply wonderful) and to Mac for his help in previous versions of PTP (his code is still in the engine...).

Are you surprised that folks are cautious? BTW, I don't think

So that's the reason? That was an accident. It only happened once, and no one died I guess... The virus is only dangerous in one day of the year and I found the problem before that day. And I'm not infected by that virus anymore and none of my files is infected.

It isn't important what the virus could or couldn't have done. Even if the
virus couldn't do any harm at all, the only thing that matters is that it was
there without you being aware of it. This also proves that it just could've
been a more dangerous virus as well and you still wouldn't have been
aware of it. Even when I told you the virus was in there, you still didn't
want to believe it at first. Also it's not unimaginable that some people
would think now that you implanted the virus on purpose in your software.
Please realize this.

Also please don't try to ridicule all the other VDS users in here. Most
people are serious people not uncommonly working for a business. Please
try to understand that they don't have time (and don't have to have time)
for playing games or simply don't want/like to.

I understand this program means a great deal for you, but please try to
understand that other people may not see this. Good work isn't always
appreciated the way it should be in this world. Your program becoming
shareware may also be part of the problem of people not willing to test it
for free.

Besides it's not always fair to always expect help from people without
ever helping anyone else out.

First of all, Tommy, you know perfectly well that I already exchanged some files with you after that problem of the virus (and the last one I gave you was an example of THIS program) and there wasn't anything wrong about them. Second, I always help when I can. I offer to beta test all the programs whose requests I see, althoug most of times its too late. And the same for the normal problems posted in the Help forum; when I come here usually everything was already answered or almost everything, and the unanswered posts are too difficult for me. And everyone that wants ME to help, can also ask me for help directly, I try to be the easiest possible to contact, my IRC, ICQ, AIM, YIM, MSNM, and email contacts are shown everywhere in my page, programs and help files. Third, I didn't try to "ridicule all the other VDS users in here". Fourth, about the "Your program becoming
shareware may also be part of the problem of people not willing to test it
for free. "... If anyone disagrees, then I'm open to complaints and suggestions. I thought there shouldn't be any problem, as I already made lots of free programs for everyone... Anyway, the program will only be shareware because I need to pay for the VDS registration it was too expensive. It will be free for all the beta testers as I wrote above.
