One of my little ticks is the "Find Target" button in Properties of a windows shortcut. I always thought it should be in the right click context menu of a shortcut. Now, it is. Smile Here is the description and download.

Description:
Quote:

If your a power user or a programmer you may use the "Find Target" option in the Properties of a Windows shortcut. Well, I use it a lot and it gets to be a pain having to right click, select preferneces, then press the Find Target button, then close the properties box. Well, my new program Find Target adds a "Find Target" menu item to the right click menu of a shortcut. Just 2 clicks and your there!

Let me know what you think.

That's nice, since I always struggle with that "Find Target" button as well... Smile

Just an idea: maybe you can let the name of the contextmenu item change if another language than English is used on a system? I don't know if you can find it in the registry, or that you have to open the explorer.exe file with an hex editor, but if it is possible, it sure would be nice... Smile

How about this; allow the user to select what language they use upon installation?

I should be able to do that. If this is ok, let me know and I'll get to work on it. I may need some help with translation of "Find Target". Wink

That's why I said you should be able to find it in the registry or something, so that you don't have to translate it yourself... Wink

I already found something... Smile If you have the "Resource Hacker", open the shell32 dll with it. Then, navigate to the "Dialog" menu and go to resource folder 1040 (1043). That will give you the shortcut properties window, which you can save to a file, and open with VDS... Smile I believe Resource Hacker allows to be runned as a hidden tool, if you send the right parameters with it, so the users won't know it's there. Unfortunaly, I don't have to help file, so you have to look up that yourself... Embarassed

Hum... that seems like a lot for just a small tool. Also that means the user would have to have Resource Hacker installed.

I think there are other command line tools as well. If not, you can just send the reshacker.exe file with your installation and run it. There is no need to install it... Smile

Skit you better take a closer look at any documentation and license with reshacker as well as with any software. I don't think you would be allowed to ship someone elses product with your's without prior permission; otherwise you're looking at copyright infringement. On the other hand maybe reshacker allows it, it doesn't hurt to take a look at the license.

As to determining the langauge you can use Windows API to find the LOCALE that is being used on the computer. This lets you determine the langauge in use on that computer. You should also offer an option to change langauges as well.

K, I'll look into it.

Prakash: Very true. Didn't think about that. I think just doing the translation would be easier.

Hum... it could be just me, but why don't you use the vds @sysinfo(language) function to retrieve the user's language? Wink

Regards,
Vic

I can get the language but not a translation for "Find Target". I am going to allow the user to change the Menu Item text to what they want (translatrion or anything else), that way I don't have to try to translate it. Wink
