I can't answer your question, but according to my Google Toolbar, microsoft.com's page rank is 9 / 10, not 1. _________________ The Tech Pro

Nathan, where did you get that URL?
And why does the second one return:
| Code: | Forbidden
Your client does not have permission to get URL /search?client=navclient-auto&googleip=O;216.239.59.99;7591&ch=6707120502&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&features=Rank&q=info:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yahoo.com from this server. (Client IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
Please see Google's Terms of Service posted at http://www.google.com/terms_of_service.html
If you believe that you have received this response in error, please send email to forbidden@google.com. Before sending this email, however, please make sure to take a look at our Terms of Service (http://www.google.com/terms_of_service.html). In your email, please send us the entire code displayed below. Please also send us any information you may know about how you are performing your Google searches-- for example, "I'm using the Opera browser on Linux to do searches from home. My Internet access is through a dial-up account I have with the FooCorp ISP." or "I'm using the Konqueror browser on Linux to search from my job at myFoo.com. My machine's IP address is 10.20.30.40, but all of myFoo's web traffic goes through some kind of proxy server whose IP address is 10.11.12.13." (If you don't know any information like this, that's OK. But this kind of information can help us track down problems, so please tell us what you can.)
We will use all this information to diagnose the problem, and we'll hopefully have you back up and searching with Google again quickly!
Please note that although we read all the email we receive, we are not always able to send a personal response to each and every email. So don't despair if you don't hear back from us!
Also note that if you do not send us the entire code below, we will not be able to help you.
Best wishes,
The Google Team |

There has been a big debate about this. Google does not want others to have direct access to their page rank data, mostly so other search engines cannot incorporate that data into their searches.
ch=6707120502
This part of your url string is an encrypted set of characters based on the domain. Each domain has it's own hash and thus the only way your going to figure that out is to know the method of decryption they are using.
Someone did figure this out a few months back, however Google quickly released a fix to their toolbar and used a new algorithm. Their determined to protect their pagerank.
Also if you do manage to get the url string to work in your browser note Google sometimes sends fake rank data as they know the browser user-agent variable your using does not match with the Google ToolBar agent (yours would be Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, etc).
Simply put there is a way to do it but it requires the google toolbar installed. What you can do is install the toolbar in IE. When you need a page rank open a new browser window with the url:
shell open, http://www.whatever.com
Take a screenshot of the IE window which displays the googletoolbar. Then include a routine which checks each pixel of the IE window till it finds the google page rank graphic (the graphic is always the same size - progress bar). Then you can grab the page rank by the number of green bars the progress bar shows.
It's really not as hard as it sounds and I was going to make something like this in the past. However never did have the time to finish it, I did start on it but scrapped it - as there was no practical use. This was about 3 months back. |
