Hi,
as you might have read in the Miscellaneous section of the forum, I was having some trouble with printing a vdsimage.dll generated bitmap at a Windows 98 pc (I constantly received a blank paper).

At first I thought this had something to do with the combination of the dll I was using to send the print job and the target printer. But trying to print the same bitmap when using Windows 98 at my home computer, at which the printing did worked when using Windows XP Pro, resulted in a blank paper too.

The weird thing is that when I open the bitmap which has been generated with Paint, and safe it again, the printing does work! So it has got nothing to do with the print dll (sorry that I kept bothering you about those problems Tommy), but with the vdsimage.dll running under Windows 98.

Now I noticed another thing: the size of the bitmap generated by the vdsimage.dll is 2.269 Kb, and the size of the same bitmap, but then re-saved with Paint is 1.702 Kb. The dots per inch of the bitmaps are different too: the one generated with vdsimage.dll is 102x108, and the re-saved one is 96x96.

The two bitmaps and a test program can be downloaded here: http://vic.vdsworld.com/dump/print.zip. The program called 'printtest.exe' can be used to print the bitmap the same way as my program would - to the default printer without any interference of Windows.

Fixed it! Very Happy

This is how I managed to get it working:
1 - Create the image with vdsimage.dll
2 - Use vdsconv.dll to convert the bitmap into a jpg file
3 - Use vdsconv.dll to convert the jpg file back into a bitmap

Ok let me see if I can help here a little about Windows and it's GDI functions. First of all the vdsimage.dll is prob. trying to save the file at a higher resolution than the Windows paint program will.. Windows Paint can only save a 24bit bitmap while other programs can save 32bit. Also Paint defaults to your video settings for it's DPI which is usaully 96dpi. This sheds a little light on what is actually going on with your printing issues Vic. I am glad that you found another way to do what you wanted to do. There may be other options that I am looking into so others will not have this same issue. So thanks for the info.

Hello Vic,

Here finally is the actual printing DLL:

http://www.vdsworld.com/files/vdsprint.zip

It will require the VDSDLL 3 registration code, hopefully it will be useful for other registered
users as well.

Hi Tommy, awesome dll Thumbs Up

I'll give it a try at that school as soon as possible, although it probably will work because it looks like the printing problem was caused by the vdsimage.dll.

I'll let you know if the test succeeded Smile
