What types of files have you successfully been able to use in a resource file (other than graphics)?
For example, has anyone ever had any success using dll files packed in a VDS resource file? Just curious. |

The only files you can used from a resource file are bitmaps and icons.
If you do add other files, they need to be extracted from the resource
file before using them. _________________ Chris

Chris is right, they need to be extracted first. In order to do this, you could for example
use the VDSINOUT DLL or the FILEIO EXTRACT command of the VDSBIN DLL (part of VDSDLL 3). |

Just to let you know, I'm in the process of making a self-extracting
resource file program. You can add any resource you want (even dll files). You just call the exe from your program and the resources are
extracted to the current directory (i.e. same dir as the exe file)with the
filename as a sub dir or the windows temp directory with the filename as
a sub dir.
If you have a SFX-Resource file called Resource.exe that
extracts to the current and you run it in C:\MyProg it will
extract the resourcec to C:\MyProg\Resources.
We'll see how it goes. _________________ Chris

I guess in a way, yes. Mine just extracts to the Current Dir or the
Windows temp dir. It doesn't have as many options. It also will run
an exe file that is named setup.exe, if one exists, within the SFX-Resource.
It's just fun to make as well. I wanted to see if I could make it.
Mine uses a 256 color icon... Just picking Tommy... _________________ Chris
