Why have a mailing list for VDS 5 when there are these forums and a
mailing list already exists?
Or do you mean you want to be notified via mail when VDS 5 is released? _________________ FreezingFire

I'm not sure if users have been using it a lot lately as I have forgotten to
join again after I changed my e-mail address.
However, you can manage your subscription at the following page:
http://www.vdsworld.com/?page=vds-l
All you would need to do is join this and then I'm sure someone would
send a message that VDS 5 was released. _________________ FreezingFire

Also there's S.A.D.E.'s VDS newsletter, you can subscribe to it in the registered user
area:
http://regarea.dialogscript.com/
S.A.D.E. doesn't seem to frequently send out the newsletters however, so I'm not sure
if they would actually notify you on VDS 5 release... |

Tommy, what section of the regarea section can you subscribe to the
mailing list? I've never seen such a feature. _________________ FreezingFire

Then I'm not certain if S.A.D.E. has ported it from the older registered user area
from the times when VDS 3 was alive... I would check it, but right now I'm kind of
too lazy to find my username & password for that section again...

Oh. Well I wasn't around when VDS 3 was the main version. Right as of
today I checked and there wasn't any sign of a newsletter/mailing list.

You're entirely correct. I have my username & password saved with my
browser, but I think that the login system should be improved on so it
uses a system such as a PHP authentication method and used the .htaccess
method only for downloading files. The PHP system could generate a link
for the user such as http://user:pass@regarea.dialogscript.com/file.exe
I have an old print-out of the e-mail somewhere but I'd have to dig around
for it to find it. I don't like the username & password system they use.
They could at least have the user specify the password/username.
But that's not as important as VDS itself. _________________ FreezingFire

tommy,
i have never received a newsletter from sade even though i have registered to that effect
it would be fantastic if they did...including programming tips...including little know features...including sample codes...including news...
a newsletter from them would lift their profile a great deal

I agree, Serge, that this would be fantastic and lift their image from what
it is now. But I think since they run many other projects (i.e. web hosting)
other than VDS, they wouldn't have time for such a thing. _________________ FreezingFire

hi ff,
i had thought of that too and thought that just as garrett is the moderator for their forum, perhaps someone could volunteer to run the newsletter with, as a carrot, free versions/upgrades of vds
they may lose one sale but it would lift their image a great deal and i think that it would be worth the loss of a sale
the newsletter could also have a section for newbies and the newsletters could be archived so that newbies could go through the older newsletters as a kind of tutorial

another thought...
the newsletter person would not have to write the whole newsletter himself (do we have female vds users' - perhaps i should include herself too...) as i'm sure that vds users would like to submit at one time or another an article with code...
something else, the newsletter person could scour the forum for worhtwhile info to include eg. undocumented features that have been discussed in the past...i certainly don't remember all the stuff that has been posted and the newsletter could be printed for future reference
for example, i didn't know about the $ in the use of hex numbers in vds

I think in the life of the newsletter from dialogscript.com, there may
have been one or two of them. I decided to not do anymore since I
couldn't get anyone to contribute anything to the newsletter, and at
that time, I didn't have much to contribute myself either.

Acutally Garrett,
I would have contributed information but I never knew I could Also what kinds of information would have been appropriate I did not know it was a community type of thing? I thought it was a news letter from SADE to let us know all the latest stuff happening with VDS? _________________ Home of
