There are 2 DLLS that do DNS lookups available from vdsworld.com
Try a search for "dns" on the main page.
I'm not sure about whois though..

for DNS: search for VDSDNSL

for WHOIS: search for VDSIPP

www.vdsworld.com and use the search feature Wink

There are a few other dll's available which accomplish this as well.

Howdy guys,
Thanks for the point in the right direction..
got me started
but now i just have more questions
but first some code and info .......
THE DEMO FROM VDSDNS.DLL
Code:

external @path(%0)vdsdns.dll
  DIALOG CREATE,Dns Query,-1,0,243,63
  DIALOG ADD,EDIT,EDIT1,8,4,234,19,www.vdsworld.com.contacts.abuse.net
  DIALOG ADD,BUTTON,BUTTON1,32,61,86,24,Lookup,DEFAULT
  DIALOG ADD,BUTTON,BUTTON2,32,152,86,24,Reverse Lookup
  DIALOG SHOW

:evloop
wait event
goto @event()

:BUTTON1BUTTON
if @not(@null(@trim(@dlgtext(edit1))))
dialog disable,edit1
dialog disable,button1
dialog disable,button2
 DNSQUERY LOOKUP,@dlgtext(edit1)
end
goto evloop
:BUTTON2BUTTON
if @not(@null(@trim(@dlgtext(edit1))))
dialog disable,edit1
dialog disable,button1
dialog disable,button2
DNSQUERY REVERSELOOKUP,@dlgtext(edit1)
end
goto evloop
:DNSRESULTS

 parse "%A;%B;%c;",@dnsquery(results)
warn Results:@cr()@cr()%A@cr()%B@cr()%c@cr()%d
dialog enable,button2
dialog enable,button1
dialog enable,edit1
goto evloop
:CLOSE
exit

AND SOME INFO FROM ABUSE.NET
http://www.abuse.net/using.phtml
The fastest and easiest way to look up abuse.net contact information is to use our DNS servers. If
you want the contacts for example.com, look up the pseudo-domain
example.com.contacts.abuse.net and each TXT record returned will be one of the contacts.
To check if you've gotten all of the contacts, you can also search for an A record which will tell you
how many TXT records there should be (0.0.0.1 for the most common case of one record.)

If you run the provided demo you will get the response 0.0.0.2
this is telling me that i can get a response from abuse.net(and that there are 2 text records or contact addresses for that domain )
However i can't get the response i really want the text record .
got any ideas??

there is a perl snipit on the page but I don't get any more info
from it as i know less about perl that VDS.
but this (it says here in small print) i think is the call, any ideas how to port to VDS???

$query = $res->search("$domain.contacts.abuse.net", "TXT");

Tx lots,
harry[/url]

You can also do a DNS lookup with one of the examples which is included with VDS 5.

Allrighty then..
Thanks
i found out how to do what i wanted, it can be done with dns and whois.
and just in case it comes up again
this is what finally worked
I wanted to find the email addresses for *some* spamer domains,
if you put :
Code:

INTERNET WHOIS,SERVER,1,whois.abuse.net,43

and query the server with the name ---> att.com
you will get in return :
abuse@att.net (for att.com)
just this one line is returned.... unlike a regular whois querry
with all the disclamers and other extra stuff to weed thru.

thanks to all who gave me input,
harry

whois.abuse.net is okay but try to do a search for: pgware.com, All you get back is postmaster@pgware.com. This will happen for many other domains as well.

If you are reporting spam you should always report to the actual provider. Rackshack is my dedicated server provider and definately the address: abuse@ev1.net should come up. Reporting to the domain owner will just have the report in the email box trash can, reporting to the actual provider has a better chance of getting that person kicked off the service thus killing the spam/abuse.

I really suggest you use whois.arin.net. I know its a little more difficult but its not that hard. You use an IP ADDRESS to search with, if your going to report email spam, just take the ip address from the X-ClientAddr header field, if that doesn't exist you will need to search the header for a valid ip, MAKE SURE IT'S NOT YOUR SERVER/YOUR IP.

Then you need to do a whois on the IP and look for : OrgAbuseEmail, AbuseEmail, OrgTechEmail, TechEmail, in the dns report; if none of these are found then search for the NetHandle. You will get something like this back: NET-23-52-0-0-1, do a whois on that and you'll get the parent/owner dns record where there should be a listing with one of those email records.

In some cases you will just get back a record with 3-4 lines, the top line will contain NET-23-23-0-0-1 type data, this is the nethandle and you will need to do a whois query on it to get the actual record. Then you can search for emails again.

As I said it's more work but you will get the correct data back.

OH YEAH!!
thanks i know many email addresses are shall we say
"default" in abuse.net
the arin tip makes more & better ways to get them bumped off their servers..
i got tired of them harvesting my email address from my
web site and so i laid some land mines for them
made my email un harvestable and put about 300
bogus email addresses available like "dofoot@pet.com"
"ringinginmyear@bellsouth.net"
all just ripe for the taking! Twisted Evil

Of course your "bogus" addresses may be someone's real address -- thus you are causing someone you don't even know a problem. Maybe stick with 10 digit random letter/number combos at some domain as your "bogus" addresses -- much less likely to be a real address. Spam is a big problem -- don't make trouble for others unknowingly!

I don't think many if any of my bogas names are
valid "apple@biteme.com" "bozo@clown.com"
I guess I could try them outttttt .... just kidding Wink
but just for you Mark i'll add some random numbers..
so i tried postmaster@127.0.0.1 but my server says its a
undeliverable address just like bozo's...
arin says:
LOOPBACK 127.0.0.1 -- 127.255.255.255

Did not want to attack, but one of our domains gets over 50,000 e-mails a week to bogus addresses -- they get directed into a master junk address and discarded, but several hundred a day get through and cause a big waste of time for our employees. BTW, if I had the domain clown.com, which is a valid domain with a web site on it, I think I would have certainly picked bozo@clown.com as MY e-mail address!!! Very Happy
