It just takes time to find the coding style that best for you. Everyone finds their way if they stick with it. If your writting code that others will re-use it becomes very important to keep with the book and keep commenting. Some people go overboard. People that are new to programming tend to either over comment or under comment. You learn moderation as you go. There is no need to comment on what is already in the manual of the language. You should comment on code that is unique to your program that cannot be found in the manual or help file.
Also 'white space' is very important for easy of reading. You should space out your lines and use indentation when you nest code inside of conditionals and loops. It's just to make it easier for you and others to read.
