It will be great and expand the VDS community if vdsworld member or someone else write tutorials to learn how to create vds extension ?
Don't you think ? _________________ Thanks |

This is true, but I don't think real tutorials exist currently explaining step by step to a basic Delphi user how to create a DLL for VDS, and some of the difficulties that could be involved with that, and what things to take care about. Of course there's the document of S.A.D.E. s.a.r.l. explaining some of the implementation, but it's aimed at the more advanced Delphi users. And the C++ example doesn't explain much at all anyway, other than providing an example.
Some of you may remember my very old DLLs. They did actually work, but weren't that well at all as they didn't always take care of freeing up controls after they were created causing memory leaks, and usually didn't trap errors and check for input provided by the DLL user so that error 27 would just occur, or totally meaningless exceptions would appear. A good tutorial could prevent an author to make such mistakes and inconsiderations. Also, it could make clear how to reduce the file size by not including any units not neccesary and make clear what units to avoid because of their large size.
I think such an article would be useful too, but I currently likely won't get to writing it myself...

Building vds's dll mean a certain knowledge of Delphi, C++Builer or VC++
A simple vds coder can learn how to make dlls but he'll have to learn Delphi first (or others)
Making a tut is not really simple.
The tut present in vdsworld can help you to begin but after you'll have to learn the language in wath you build it _________________

Hi All,
I have been working on an SDK for building VDS DLL,s with C/C++. I am putting together documentation, examples, working classes, libs, and header files for about 5 different distributions of C/C++... I can wrap in Delphi examples but I need documentation for Delphi. I do have my own copy of Delphi and I do have the simple documentation on building VDS DLL's with Delphi but I don't know enough Delphi to really explain it to others. If I can get some notes from you Delphi developers out there that have built VDS DLL's I will add this information into my SDK as well. _________________ Home of

In case you are not aware, there is now a DLL Developer Community
at VDSWORLD for people who want to learn about creating DLLs for
Visual DialogScript.
There's quite a few people who are more than willing to help you on
questions that you may have at http://developer.vdsworld.com/ _________________ FreezingFire

Yep... I noticed that one today.
Of course, then the developer forum didn't exist either. _________________ FreezingFire
