I've been looking for a freeware extension to encrypt strings.
But haven't found any. The encryption strength isn't a big deal. Does anyone know if there is one available?
MD5 hash encryption would be the one I would prefer _________________

| Tommy's vdsdll3 has got MD5 decryption, but it's shareware. Also it isn't contained in the default package... Does anybody know where to get the package which has all vdsdll3 dlls? |

The only freeware encryption DLL I know of is the blowfish extension from Zoltar... however there is some question about the integrity of the extension. You can find the discussion about it in this thread.
You can get the missing parts of the VDSDLL package here.

Thanks guys.
Do you know if anyone has done some serious testing on that extension?
I mean, to find out if there is anything "fishy" with it. _________________

| I don't know if anyone really cared to take the time to test it... once it was called into question. |

Yeah, I can understand that.
I think I'll put that on hold and hope that someone makes a proper free md5 extension _________________

Well personnaly I HIGHLY recommend VDSDLL3 which contains an MD5 DLL among tons of usefull features. Once you register it you can even compile a special DLL containing only the VDSDLL3 parts you like.
Its well worth the price.. its only 19.99$
And no im not from the sales department of Tommy's products... Its just excellent and I wanted to mention it.

Here is a FREEWARE MD5 dll that I downloaded from VDSWorld.com a little while ago. I cannot find it listed on there again so you can DL it from my server.
[link temporarily removed]
I have also tested the blowfish dll and I have not found anything "fishy" about it. it works fine for me. _________________ Chris

Are you sure you tested Zoltar's blowfish DLL Chris? I remember something about it looking for keys for VDS and PGWare products. _________________ -Sheep

| LiquidCode, the DLL you mentioned is Tommy's... But I think it's shareware now... Maybe you can remove the link (for now) ? Cause I think you have a beta version or something which could/can be used without registration stuff... |

Yup this was an initial release not part of VDSDLL3 and then got included. Not sure your suppose to redistribute that version... Better ask Tommy about that just in case |

Oops, sorry. I didn't know/remember that.
There was a dll that had done that before but it was not a blowfish dll. I have done tests on it and it has not transmitted any info. I have used a firewall and a few other tests. So far, i haven't seen anything bad. _________________ Chris

VDSINOUT.DLL can be downloaded at
http://www.vdsworld.com/index.php?page=download&fileid=10
I've used it before for some personal file encryption... I'm not sure if the
string encryption works well. BTW, there's an error in the help file that
misleads you on the function therefore causing an error. The correct
syntax is found in the thread:
