How would I convert the contents of one variable via translation? I'm looking to start very simple. Such as a=b, b=d, c=c. I got it to translate single letters with a list trick, but words and whole sentences are a mystery to me.
Note: I'm using The VDS Personal version 4 (free)

i don't think that there is a difference in that instead of using @ITEM() you would use %%VARIABLE

Is this what you try to do (made it real quick, so I hope you can understand what it does) ?

That works wonderfully! However, I tweaked with it for about an hour and I couldn't get it to do what I wanted. I am looking more for a letter-by-letter translator.
hello = junni because h=j, e=u, l=n, o=i, etc. It's a very simple translator and eliminates the need to put every word in the endlish language (about a million according to oxford) into that list. I'd rather handle 26 letters plus some punctuation.

If ya wanna do that type of character translation, String.DLL has a Translate function which
does exactly that.

That doesn't work for Personal VDS 4.
