I was just wondering if anyone is using a version control system with VDS? I was thinking along the lines of something with a local repository for working alone.

Regards.

No I'm not.

I use one of my shareware products, GetBack (www.tech-pro.net/getback.html) which saves a copy of each source file as I create it, so I can retrieve an old version if necessary. But that is not a real VDS, as files are retained individually on a first in, first out basis.

If I had the time, I'd create a tool in VDS that I could use to archive whole projects as a snapshot. It would allow you to add one or more .dsp files to a project. When you ran it, it would open the main .dsc fie in each project file and scan it to determine all the included files and resources. You could also add other files that aren't automatically included. It would then build a zip file contaning all those files.

I might get around to developing it as a tool for the Enterprise version of VDS 6. If someone else decides to develop this, I'll buy a copy, and recommend to CR that they license it for inclusion in the Enterprise version.
