|
|
A long long time ago, Tommy Sools made a dll for us using the free vcl component of "PBear's HTML Viewer". It was limited because of the license features allowed in the free version. Tommy has since lost all the code to this...
But! PBear has since released the full version as "public domain"... Which means if someone is willing, we could have a dll of the full version finally. This would allow for so many more features than what was possible with the old free version.
Yes yes, I understand we have the MSIE browser available to VDS... But I myself and I know others seriously dislike using the MSIE engine for anything, and this would finally let some of us start using a browser component again without the worries of MSIE.
And DLL makers out there interested? Here's the link:
http://www.pbear.com/
If you take it on, I seriously and greatly thank you in advance for anyone and everyone that will use it. I know I will if someone does it.

I would also love to see this kind of .dll.
Would it operate similarly to the VDS browser element, just without the MSIE engine? _________________ Joe Floyd |

That it would... With less of a security risk too. The extension that Tommy wrote just using the limited free version back then was still rather feature rich when compared to the browser element in VDS. But now with the full version being free, this would allow us to use a completely alternate browser, that is independent from the system... It won't matter if they have a browser at all installed, as this would be a browser on it's own. Plus, it has probably just about all the same features and workings as MSIE or Firefox or Safari etc.
If I had money, I'd pay someone to make this into a dll, but I'm just far too broke and owe others already.
But man, I've been waiting for years and years now to make my own independent browser, and this would finally let me realize this goal.
Sure hope someone is up for the job. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

That would definitely be a really cool thing to have in the toolbox. No more worries about having to check which browser (if any!) the user has installed on their system. _________________ FreezingFire

Garrett,
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought this component was an HTML viewer and not a true browser. If memory serves me it cannot download web pages from a web server? Anyway I don't think I could make a DLL for this since I don't have Delphi or C++ Builder. Maybe PGWARE, Martin, or even Tommy would do us a solid and build one more DLL for old time sake? I wish it was an actual Win32 DLL then we could just use the @lib() function to call it. Can you ask the author if he could make it a regular DLL so everyone can use it? _________________ Home of

I honestly don't know... I'm just an user/abuser here and don't know much about these things. It said something about Indy components on the site, and that I know is the internet comms stuff for Delphi. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |
