Posted: Mon Apr 14, 2003 7:03 am Post subject: VDSIPP 3 Released |
|
|
New version of VDSIPP (Visual DialogScript Internet Protocol Package) Released - DOWNLOAD. This release is for the preperation of VDS 5's arrival. After testing wth VDS 5 I found that the earlier version of VDSIPP would not run at all with VDS 5, it would crash on even trying to execute a command/function. Also this new version has been updated with that last 8.x build of Indy (Internet Direct components for Delphi), which means alot of bugs have been fixed within all protocols. Also fixed in this version is the UDP-SERVER support, the onmessage event is now triggered with internal threads to allow for events to respond quicker. Also the helpfile is now using Compile HTML Help and an installer is now included.
The last change will be somewhat contraversial. After some thought I've decided to close the code on VDSIPP and no longer distribute it as open source. One because no one ever sent in updates, two because the VDSIPP will now be a licensed extension.
The VDSIPP will be FREE to use in your application only if your application is FREEWARE. This license fee is limited to any application which is for profit, whether that be (shareware, donationware, commercial, for-sale, contract work) or any application which is not completely free of charge and which uses the VDSIPP must purchase a one-time $5 USD license. The one-time license must be purchased for each product/software title a developer distributes using the VDSIPP.
For instance if you only have 1 product which uses VDSIPP and it is not FREEWARE, you only need to purchase 1 license ($5 USD) and you can distribute unlimited copies of this product to your users.
However if you have 2 products which use VDSIPP and they are not FREEWARE, then you need to purchase 2 licenses ($10 USD) and you can distribute unlimited copies of both of your products to your users.
I know many people will hate me for doing that, but I have received 0 donations since the extension became freeware. Having spent many hours updating this current release of VDSIPP to work with VDS 5 and for the community I personally think the $5 USD license fee is very small and is only for applications which are not FREEWARE. Please note that those authors that distribute FREEWARE apps with the VDSIPP need not worry about any license fee. |

How does this affect people who have bought and paid for a licence from before VDSIPP2 went freeware? _________________ Andrew GRAY

I agree PK. Price is more than reasonable. Also for time you took to fix it, I dont think its expensive at all. VDSIPP is one the must have DLLs for VDS.
Thanks PK for this upgrade |

Very cool PK! I'm excited to hear about the new version. Thanks for the hard work you put into this extension. It really is a must have DLL. _________________ "ah, come take my hand... we're ridin' out tonight to face the promised land"

| A license must still be purchased for any application which is not FREEWARE no matter if a previous license for version 1 of vdsipp was purchased. This fee is very low and only applies to non-freeware applications. |

Also I think, although PK did not mention this, that if you already have
been issued a license before for an older version, that you can still remain
using that specific older version according to the terms of that license.
Still I think it would remain more than fair to purchase a new license
anyhow.
About the pricing, I think that it's 100% fair, as when your application will
be shareware, the very least you would make with it is $5, so that there
isn't anyone who seriously could not afford it. |

| Of course anyone with a previous version can still use that prior versions free of charge for any applications. This new $5 fee is only for usage of version 3 of VDSIPP in non-freeware apps. If your program is freeware you can use the VDSIPP 3 with a free license. Just note that the older version of VDSIPP did not work with VDS 5 which was the main reason it was updated. |

Just so you know Prakash, the download link in your first post grabs Tommy's vdsdll3.zip, not vdsipp03.exe. The fileid should be 17 instead of 60. _________________ "ah, come take my hand... we're ridin' out tonight to face the promised land"

Hortalonus, I edited Prakash's post, so the link points to the right file now. _________________ FreezingFire

Comments on this extension:
Overall I am very impressed and always have been with this extension.
I think the pricing is 100% fair as Tommy said.
I noticed that your compiler (DSP) files are being distributed in the VDS 5
section... didn't know if you knew that. _________________ FreezingFire

VDSIPP has now been updated to work correctly with VDS 5. In some cases weird errors would pop up when usign VDS 5 and the vdsipp. These seem to have been fixed thanks to Tommy's help. However the dll is now shareware, a trial messagebox is shown and the dll can only be used within the IDE until registered.
For those that previously registered this extension please email at: support@pgware.com to receive your new serial - free. Include all order information as you can provide so I can lookup your order and send you the new serial promptly. Finally their will be no royalty fee's per application as mentioned a few months ago, only a single one time fee.

Due to the recent rise in the VDSIPP pricing without warning I've decided to give a discounted price. Starting today and ending July 20th the vdsipp will be offered for $70 US. You must enter the coupon code: PGWARE on the order form to get this discount.
Please note that after July 20th this discount will not be offered and the normal price of $100 will be charged. |

A rise from $5 to $100?
That's a big leap
I was about to ask where I could purchase VDSIP for $5 but I can't afford $70 or $100 at this time _________________
