If anyone gets a chance, please let me know if VDS would ever be able to work with the Paperport SDK:

http://www.paperport.com/capturesdk/

My goal would be a simple a simple customized scan program that could attach a document to a database record. In other words, I imagine there is a control in the SDK that is "acquire scan" and I would like to use that in a VDS program.

Would VDS 4.5 be able to use this? Would VDS 5?

Thanks for any comments.

Yep, it's not free, so I don't know exactly what it comes with without purchasing it.

I have used a lot of 3rd party applications with VDS - but only through passing parameters to executables, putting variables in an application's parameter file, and sending keystrokes, etc.

I have never understood whether VDS can take advantage of an application's "developer components" - which they describe as an API, sometimes DLLs, sometimes ActiveX components or COM components.

Can VDS4.5 or (5.0) access any of these?

Thanks again for the info -

As it has been mentioned, VDS 5 can do complex API programming. Smile

VDS 5 can (as far as I know) do the same things as Mindpower's dll, Gadget. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Actually theres somethings that Gadget can do that VDS 5 can't. You'll find this once you get deeply invovled with the Windows API.

If your scanner supports twain, you may like to take a look at this topic:
