OK...
Here is win95 I believe this is the original OSR2 version since the computer it's running on acts as a simple modem server and never gets updated:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion = 4.00.1111
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion = Windows 95

I was curious and did a few more searching.
I found something else in the registry entries for WinNT 4 Server SP6a and Win2000 Pro that may be worth looking at.
Win2000 Professional
Type = workstation:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions, ProductType= "WinNT"
WinNT 4 SP 6a Server
Type = Domain Controller (Primary & Secondary):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions, ProductType= "LanmanNT"
Type = Member or Standalone Server:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions, ProductType= "ServerNT"
Moke, since it sounds like you have access to a WinNT 4 Workstation, could you please take a peek at what NT 4 Workstation has for this entry whenever you get a chance? Thank you, sir.
If NT 4 Workstation has a different entry from the Server types, this can help distinguish between the different types if needed. _________________ Sylvester

| I will try to get that info on monday when i can get to an NT 4 machine. I think we should think about how to deal with XP home and XP pro. If it is the same as NT and 2000, the server edition for XP will also pose a problem. Tune in on monday. |

Sorry Tommy, but your download document didn't fair well with WordPad. So I made a web page for this that we can use to keep track of this version stuff.
http://www.eyrisdev.com/winver.html
If anyone has any corrections, additions or updates to the page, either post a reply here or drop me an email at garrett@SPAMOFFsade.net (remove the SPAMOFF to get the real email address)
It would seem now that there may be some confusion brewing with the OSR versions of 95. I've seen now that 4.03.1214 has been noted for both Windows 95 OSR2.1 (4.00.950B) and Windows 95 OSR2.5 (4.00.950C). I tried searching the knowledge base for a more comprehensive listing of the version information for all Win versions, but have not found what we need yet. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

Hey Garrett,
Here's the page where I found the info about the USB patch.
http://www.compuclinic.com/osr2faq/index.html#USB
Here's the paragraph I was referring to:
There are two versions of this patch, 4.03.1212, and 4.03.1214. The latter version fixes some incompatibilities present in the former version. If you have the older version and it has caused problems, uninstall it and install the newer version. The older version is in the Other\Updates directory of the OSR2.1 CDROM, and the newer version is in the Other\Updates directory of the OSR2.5 CDROM.
I have no way of knowing how accurate this info is, but I'd kinda
like to know for sure myself. You'd think there's be some mention
of the OSR version in Windows somplace...

AHA!
Further down in the page I listed above is a table of the
versions and serial numbers on the Win95 CD:
0196 Part no. 000-37080 US OSR1 (sometimes OSR2, Gateway)
0796 Part no. 000-45234 US OSR2
0796 Part no. 000-45236 US OSR2 (+ Plus! pack)
0197 Part no. 000-59944 US OSR2.1 (+ USB patch)
1297 Part no. X03-52599 US OSR2.5 (+ USB patch + IE4.01)
1297 Part no. X03-56265 US OSR2.5 (+ USB patch + IE4.01 + Plus! pack)
And according to this, mine is OSR2.1 (+ USB patch).
Sorry I didn't see this sooner, it was late and I was kinda tired
when I originally found the FAQ.

Hi All,
Actually there is an easier way than using the registry. Have you seen that little file called winver.exe? It is in the Windows directory on Win9x and WinME and in the System directory on Win NT, 2000 and I believe it is in that location on XP too. Anyway all you need to do is locate this file and get the Version info. The files version info is the same as that of the OS that is running on the system. _________________ Home of

Hi All,
Actually winver.exe can be found on every version of windows even as far back as Windows 3.x versions.... Have fun no need for DLL's or registry hunting... _________________ Home of
