I got some good news about VDS 5.

I have now tested VDS 5 on Longhorn 4029 and it worked perfectly.
In fact, in worked better there than on XP.

And I didn't event had to install the multilanguage update to use the DialogEditor.

Well, that's it.
Mmmmm... bye.... Laughing

MS says Longhorn is "not fit for business or consumer use" yet, so
testing now may not yield the same results as the finished product... Wink

The Longhorn product is not finished, and won't be officially
ready until 2005...

"Microsoft is aware of the pirated copies of Longhorn being
sold in the country [Malaysia]," said Jonathan Selvasegaram,
a Microsoft attorney. "The version of Longhorn which has been
released to date are developer codes, not fit for business or
consumer use as it is not a complete product."

GeoTrail is a beta-tester for Microsoft not a pirate. Smile

LOL, it doesn't matter if he's Bill Gates - Longhorn isn't finished. Very Happy

I'm not saying it won't work perfect on the finished product, but it's
much easier to avoid problems when many features (and potential
bugs) haven't been added to the OS. Wink

Cheers, Mac Smile

OK Sorry... I thought you were implying he was using a pirated version
of Longhorn. Smile

Well, I'm using the latest PDC "beta" release of Longhorn, NOT one of the leaked alpha versions.

Most of the core system files are in release stage for this version and can be used as an early testing platform for applications. It is still far away to be near the stages of being a public testing or commercial platform. But hey, I'm not a commercial user Wink

Within the end of this week I should have tested VDS 5 on a new build which will be a big change from the 4029 build from june. This will be the real build 4051 PDC version. (Not the same as the leaked fake version on P2P networks.)

Anyways, it cannot be used as a 100% foolproof way to test applications and compatibility, but the core of this version is very close the what the final release will be like.

I've tested VDS 5 on Longhorn 4051 PDC now and a strange problem occured.

The dialog designer works perfectly still, but now the compile button and compile menu doesn't seem to work at all. I can't compile any projects.
I tried installing the update but still didn't work.

I'm waiting for a new beta release so I can test it on that incase it's just a Windows memory error that causes this behaviour.

btw, happy new years Thumbs Up

Are you sure you've put the vds.key file in the Visual Dialogscript directory? Smile

Also did you check to make sure that the VDS.KEY is not set as read-only?
Not sure if that problem still exists with VDS 5.

Yeah, not sure that's something that can be fixed internally with VDS or
not, but that is one of the issues that many people use to have problems
with. And I think that also had something to do with the permissions
also.
