OK i have a problem eg.

I have a dialog with a TAB Element on it

On one of the tabs i have a Table Element, and A line element behind it so i can add items to the table list (Due to vds5 bug).

When i change to another tab, the elements do not show.

I am using Hide and Show elements rather than Add and Remove.

Is there any way to fix this ?

Nathan

Found a solution,

I am just going to use tommys VDSLISTS.DLL, its working great no hide, show bugs and add to list bugs.

Nathan

Sorry, I must sasy this !

I do like VDS a Lot, but i find it frustrating that we have to find workarounds for bugs in VDS5 !, eg. the Table Element has to be on a Line Element to be able to add items to it plus more...

This is only my opinion and again i must stress i really do like VDS5 and i really find this community at VDS World excellent, i could not complete some of my programs without the help of users here.

But you also have to agree, that without VDS 5, there wouldn't be that
feature, so I wouldn't complain. Razz Wink

hi ff,

i take your point but it is not just the table element that has a quirk, i have never been able to get the timer thing working properly (especially the event it is supposed to generate at the end of a countdown)...this means that i have had to come up with extra code to do what the timer should have done as you will see in my competion entry

i understand that it is hard to bring out 100% code in something complicated as vds, but it is still frustrating when it doesn't work as documented and you have to find workarounds

all that rubes and i are doing are expressing our occasional frustration rather than an all out complaint against cr or vds...i have looked at other languages and always come back to vds because i find it so good for what i do (+ i use at school with my students to do some minor maths programming projects)

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

No problem, no hard feelings. Smile

I just wanted to make sure you remembered that Commercial Research
has only a few programmers while a company like Borland has hundreds.

It's good to voice your opinion though. Wink

Well actually FF we had so called table elements long before VDS 5 came along Wink I really don't know why CR needed to add more controls. They would have been better off enhancing other parts of VDS than to add more controls. It's nice that we have several controls in the language but if they would have made it possible for us to make our own controls then I think (IMHO) VDS 5 would have been even more worth the money.

I can understand the need of the table element, because it gives VDS programs a whole new look... For example, most programs need some database to work, which can now be visualised with the use of the table element... Smile

Personally I'm very happy the table element was implemented. But it would
indeed be nice to have an ability to create/add our own controls. Smile

OK,

I have a TAB Element with loads of other controls etc on each tab,

I am using dialog hide, dialog show etc instead of dialog remove, dialog add when the TAB is clicked.

To resolve the issue of the Table Element not displaying the data, i have placed the line element behind it the exact same size.

When i go to another tab, the controls are not displayed, the line element is not hiding correctly and therefore i can not change any settings.

So i can not post any source code, but this is a really big project and i don't want to give anything away ! Very Happy

I've found theres a lot of bugs with elements not hiding/showing correctly
with VDS - all versions. This is really annoying and I hate to design things
with tabs because of this. The tab control usually takes me like 3 hours
alone to get working right for the typical program I make. Sad

I haven't done nay serious work with tabs in VDS but if it's so stubborn then in VDS 5 you can give a try using API to aaditionally force set the parent of your Table to a Group without a title (better than Line IMO) over it and then hide/show the group. I think that should work for you.
