Quote:
In 1983, Borland revolutionized software development with one of
the first PC development environments, Turbo Pascal®, which helped
make the commercial development of PC applications possible. The new
products revive the popular Turbo brand and provide users with a simple
but powerful development environment that combines quick and easy
learning with rapid productivity gains.

So what's that mean? Turbo Delphi! And there will be a free
version with I believe no restrictions!

Or more directly to VDS, is that some of you may be able to create dll
extensions for VDS using this new Turbo Delphi. But don't hold me to
it of course since it's not available yet.

Sounds cool even though I don't write .dlls or know Delphi programming. But I am definitely all for anything that benefits the VDS community!

That's great news!
High time that affordable programming is brought back to the hobby world.

If I read the articles correctly even the free version is more than needed for just hobby programming. It has everything needed to make even database applications.
That's more than the Delphi Personal edition ever did!

Thanks for pointing this news out to us.

Likely the explorer version is for non commercial/non shareware usage. It still is very nice and allows people to learn the software. Hopefully they put the professional version at a price within reach for more customers. I remember paying close to $1000 for delphi which is just insane to think about.

Yeah and a year later it's paytime again for the next version Evil or Very Mad

For home programming this Turbo revival may be a gift from heaven.

All the articles that I have read state that the express versions can be
used for personal, commercial and educational.

Less than an hour before the release of the Turbo series.

Well, after all that hype and waiting, it was nothing to get excited about
afterall.

They didn't really do anything with the products except relabel them and
give it all a new web site.

Just to download TurboDelphi, it's over 500 megs worth of downloads. And
reports from friends of mine who've already downloaded and tried are all
complaining of some serious bug issues.

So they all dumped it and went off to play with either Lazarus or Free
Pascal.

Great idea Borland, but horrible implementation of the whole thing.
