Garrett,
I had written you another version of this template that showed an implementation of the NextParam procedure. If you can find it can you post that one for us? _________________ Home of

Estas, vdsipp also support NTP time servers , maybe you did not know? It allows querying of time servers, as well as code to run as a NTP server. Obviously your dll will probably be much smaller than vdsipp so that's a nice plus for anyone needing to distribute smaller dlls.
Definately a nice job though, and it's good to see another language can build vds dll's. |

Hi All,
Technically speaking any language that is able to build a 32bit Windows DLL and can export the functions using the CDECL calling convention should work with VDS. However languages handle strings so differently that usually I find I spend most of my time trying to get those languages to work with the strings properly.
Just to let everyone know I have offered Commercial Research several of my code translations of the original Delphi VDS DLL template to add to their DLL SDK but I have not heard from them about it. I do the translations when ever asked by others and if the target language can actually build such DLL's. There are a couple of other languages I will probably tackle at some point and those are PowerBasic and Euphoria. If any of you would like a translation done please ask and if I have time I will try to build it for you. I think this PureBasic translation only took me a few hours and most of that was reading the PureBasic Help file. _________________ Home of

Thanks for the offer - as far as I am concerned, I just wanted to take a closer look into building DLLs for VDS as a sort of learning experience.
I didn't mean to interfere with PGWare's DLLs and certainly didn't want to throw a competing alternative into this forum - I am sorry for that - I just overlooked the fact that a ntp server function was already created. Since I had developed an ntp time server program with PureBasic a while ago for my own personal use, I thought that VDS users might be in need of a function that retrieves the current time and, more out of curiousity, I felt an urge to create a DLL for it. And, additionally I wanted to give the developer forum a new momentum and VDS users the feeling back that there are others out there that are still very much interested in VDS. There hasn't been much activity lately and I would hate to see that users interested in VDS lose their interest in a good programming language because of a lack of participation.

Hey Estas,
Maybe I worded my last post a little badly. I'm not upset or angry that you created an NTP dll I figured you may not have known a dll already exists which does NTP thus no reason to recreate the wheel and spend time on something which you may othewrise not have needed to spend time on
But it's definately a good exercise to learn to program a dll and sharing it is something that is always encouraged here at vdsworld. Keep up the good work. |
