Yes, even an analog modem has a MAC address. You can find yours by typing "ipconfig /all" at the command prompt. It will be reported as the Physical Address..............: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
However, if you want complete compatibility, you might want to avoid using the MAC address for the few people who don't have them. |

yea that is what i was thinking...my other thought would be to run the string thru vdsinout for encrytion...then take the NEW string and have that be enter into some type of keygen.....hummmm _________________ Have a nice day |

That's the right idea... the deeper the levels of encryption and string manipulation, the better the chance you will help your users stay honest. Will it stop the seasoned cracker? No. But it will curb the casual copier.
That's all for me tonight... sleep well all! |

Actually that MAC address is for the dial-up adapter. It is not for the analog modem. An analog modem does not have a MAC address. A dial-up adapter is a virtual software only device that Microsoft's RAS builds and attaches to the analog modem if you choose an analog modem as the device to attach it to. This allows us to use the TCP/IP protocals through an analog device like a modem. Basicly RAS is imulating a network card with software and then wrapping this into a modem protocal like "kermit" or some other. I can not remember what the underlying modem protocal is right now but it is not TCP/IP or IPX _________________ Home of

Ah... good to know. I didn't realize that the dialup adapter was not hardware. I didn't think about it but it makes sense that a MAC address could be emulated in software, since that's what virtual machines use for networking. You learn something new everyday! |

I don't think you can get any information about a users bios that would be unique. Alot of people have the same bios..
I would stick with harddrive and MAC combined or using one or the other. _________________ -Sheep

SnarlingSheep - ok
well here is what i have so far. yes i know i have alot of "info" in there but this is so i can see what is going on
| Code: |
External VDSinout
%i = @volinfo(c:,z)
%o = @hex(%I,8)
info Input (%i) = Output (%o)
info @volinfo(c:,z)
%%serial = @volinfo(c:,z)
%%test = @io(ENCCCB,%o,test)
info %%test
%p = @IO(MSNBR)
%a = @IO(MSLIN)
info %p
info %a

i'am stuck now...i don't know which way to go meaning should i save the %%test to a file? trhen compare the file? BUt what would i compare it to? and i'am not sure how to make it check for a "key" I do see that i could chnage the test to a diff pass key but that won't really do much for what i need that i can see. i know the answer is right in front of me to
%%test = @io(ENCCCB,%o,test)
the "test" in the last line above is the pass key _________________ Have a nice day |

Basically right now you need to figure out how you are going to take their name and drive serial and make a serial number for your program out of that info.
Name + Drive Serial = Program Serial you send them.
When the program runs it will create a serial out of their Name and Drive Serial each time and make sure it matches the Program Serial they are putting in. _________________ -Sheep

ahhhh kkkk
so the "Name" you are taking about could be the pass key? or just leave the pass key set to whatever and have it add a new varible? if so how it add it using vdsinout? _________________ Have a nice day |

I haven't really messed with making serials so this is all theory, but I definetly wouldn't use the users name as the passkey to encrypt with.
You would more likely want to encrypt it like:
Say the name was "Snarling Sheep" and the drive serial was: "07De726h736"(random example)
You would encrypt Snarling Sheep07De726h736 with your own chosen(hopefully complicated) passkey. _________________ -Sheep

ahhhhh i think i know what you mean.....so something like this
| Code: |
%name = whatever
%%test1 = @io(ENCCCB,%name,%o)
then added test and test1 together or...hummm
or maybe this:
%%test = @io(ENCCCB,%name%o,test)
then have it save this to a file...
|
p.s of corse pass key would be chagne to something better then "test" just using that for a expamle....then comparing and checking is the part then will be hard....
edit- thinking about this what i posted above won't work....cuase that above would run on any machine just have to enter the name hard to explain.... _________________ Have a nice day |
