To read the info you put in, you will have to know the length of what you put in and subtract that from the file size.
| Code: |
%%EOF = @FILE(C:\test\sol.exe,Z)
%w = tim
%%Len = @LEN(tim)
%%EOF = @FSUB(%%EOF,%%Len)
%%j = @IO(READC,sol.exe,%%EOF,0)
INFO %j

hummm i was thinking why uses a exe like you say it can be found and del..why not have it write to a help file meaning if a person makes a window help file for there program they could just have it write to that...that should work right? or no?
thanks _________________ Have a nice day |

hummm only problem is if is a s/n type of a number the lenght will vary...couldn't a person cal the length out meaning anything after the EOF count the bytes...hummmm _________________ Have a nice day |

Basically any file you try and make can be found and deleted, so can any registry string. At least with an external file or registry string you can see that it has been deleted and reset it to 0 runs.
If you use an external exe, at least you can pass it off as a utility that your real program uses.
With a help file that actually does contain help on your real program, if you can write to the end and it still function, that could be a good way to go. _________________ -Sheep

i posted the same time you did
ahhh kk yea i have the wheels in my head turning..hehhehe BUT a help file would make it not so "noticeable"
BUT the lenght of what you write could be a problem...hummmm _________________ Have a nice day

What I would do, is keep track of the length of your serial number and add it to the end of the serial number when you embed it in whatever as a 3 digit number.
That way you can read the last 3 characters of the file and know how long the serial number is. The problem with that is, if the user looks at it for some reason, you are also telling them how many characters the serial number is(If they figure out what the number is there for) and they will delete it from the file.
So, no matter what you do, you will have to keep track of the length of the serial number somewhere before you embed it. _________________ -Sheep

hummmm i kind of follow what you mean......hummmm but the writing to a exe is cool well i think it is...hummm what can i mess up on the wifes computer...heheheheh
but if you have the length encryted then decryted it BEFORE it uses it to read the exe that would help some to.... _________________ Have a nice day |

Encrypting the length brings you back to the same problem, the length of the encrypted length could vary..lol _________________ -Sheep

i see a problem that is if you keep running that file it KEEPS adding more to the EOF it doesn't overwrite what is there meaning:
exe BOFORE running the code:
| Code: |
2 small squares ( it won't let me paste it)
|
run code the at the EOF i get this (ran code once):
| Code: |
2 small squares and the word tim ( again it won't let me paste it)
|
run code again second time get this there:
| Code: |
2 small squares and this word there titim (again can't paste 2 small squares it won't let me)
|
and i get a eorror in this code:
| Code: |
%%EOF = @FILE(C:\new Visual DialogScript\sol.exe,Z)
info %%EOF
%%w = tim
%%j = @IO(WRITC,%%w,sol.exe,%%EOF,0)
%%EOFf = @FILE(C:\new Visual DialogScript\sol.exe,Z)
%%Len = @LEN(tim)
%%EOF1 = @FSUB(%%EOFf,%%Len)
%%z = @IO(READC,sol.exe,%%EOF1,0)
INFO %%z
|
now unless i have something that i didn't wrong in the code i get a eorror at info %%Z also to as you can see it don't fully over write what is there _________________ Have a nice day |

The end of the file is just that. It's the end of the data in the file. Your serial number is data in the file once you add it in.
So if the file is 8,962 bytes and you add a serial number with a length of 10 characters, the end of the file was at 8,962 and now it's at 8,972. So you are just continually adding on to the file.
That's why you need to keep track of how long the serial is. So you know where to delete the old serial out and put a new one in if you need to. _________________ -Sheep

ok BUT in that code above it should have -3 bytes tho so it should have start over...if you follow what i mean..and i'am not sure why i get a eorror at that info statement and in the code i posted above its not reading the file at all..well the info windows shows nothing in there then it eorrors after you click ok... _________________ Have a nice day |

I'm not sure why that is..I guess using the size from @FILE isn't a good way to find the end of the file. I'm not sure right now how to work around that. _________________ -Sheep

yea its not doing the EOF right or the math check this out:
| Code: |
%%EOF = @FILE(C:\new Visual DialogScript\sol.exe,Z)
info %%EOF
%%w = tim
%%j = @IO(WRITC,%%w,sol.exe,%%EOF,0)
wait 2
%%EOFf = @FILE(C:\new Visual DialogScript\sol.exe,Z)
info %%EOFf
%%Len = @LEN(tim)
%%EOF1 = @FSUB(%%EOFf,%%Len)
info %%EOF1
%%z = @IO(READC,sol.exe,%%EOF1,0)
INFO %%z
|
ok the info at info %%EOF = 171392
info %%EOFf = 171392
info %%EOF1 = 171389
INFO %%z = nothing in windows after you click ok then i get a eorror
wierd...hummmm _________________ Have a nice day |
