I was just making a nice file manager, when I made a wrong repeat loop, and all my coding was gone. After that I got the idea of letting VDS have a recovery function, just like Microsoft Word has. That way non-saved files could be recovered as well... _________________ [ Add autocomplete functionality to your VDS IDE windows! ]

There is an auto-save function, save before run function, etc...
I have these enabled as well as I make backups of my code all along the
way...
See if there's a *.~dsc file in the directory where you were working on
your script. _________________ FreezingFire

Hi All,
VDS 5 deletes your *.~dsc files to the Recycle Bin. So even if you have made many many changes to your files a back up can be retrieved from the Recycle Bin. Of course this depends on how offten you have your PC set to purge the recycle bin _________________ Home of

Yes I know, but I mean a function like that for file which aren't saved (yet). I often make the beginning of a program without saving, because I first want to look if it's a good idea... But sometimes things go wrong, and I lose my code... If something like this happens with Word, it will automatic recover the text, if it is saved or not. This is what I want to see in VDS... _________________ [ Add autocomplete functionality to your VDS IDE windows! ]

Hi Skit,
It sounds like you want the Autosave like FF mentioned but it will not automaticly bring back up the text. Also if you are not saving as you go then I don't know how you have been able to get anything done I never trust my PC or myself that well to think I could code something that is not going to break and take a chance at loosing stuff. Hmmmm maybe it is just me or where I live but here in America our PC's don't work that well I am always saving as I go and I was taught to do so.
I wander why M$ didn't put that feature in the IDE's for their languages. Well at least I have not seen it in them. It may be there and I just have not discovered it yet. I know that most IDE's make 2 copies of your source code as you work but I have never seen any that would automaticly try to restore from the backup when the IDE is reopened after a crash? It sounds like a cool feature though but even if it was implemented I would still not trust it and always save as I go.
IMHO that is a bad habit you have gotten into and very counter productive... _________________ Home of

Perhaps Skit does it for kicks!!
Ya know, some people will go jumping off bridges, others will run red lights at 100 mph, and still others
may write a couple of hundred lines of code without saving and just press that "Run Script" button to see
if the code breaks..

Why not just write a VDS script to do this? _________________ FreezingFire

You could also create a small program that launches VDS and plugs into the IDE DDE interface. Then
you could make it issue a FILESAVE command every x minutes to a time-stamped filename of your
choosing. At close-down it could do some kind of householding, like deleting all but the 10 latest
saves for that project, zip 'em up etc.

That's kind of what I was thinking: When you click the shortcut, launch
a VDS program that launches VDS.EXE and uses VDS 5's DDE capabilities
to auto-save it. I like your ideas Dr. Dread... perhaps we should make
this an open-source tool, and everybody can help develop it! _________________ FreezingFire
